Heidelberg Materials is seeking a Safety Professional to join our team in the Leeds, AL area.

Based in Leeds, AL, this position reports to the Regional Director, Health & Safety, and supports our Cement Operations in Leeds.

What You'll Get To Do

  • Implement and support all S&H systems and programs, including training, inspections/audits, industrial hygiene, implementation of company S&H policies, accident investigation/reporting and regulatory compliance programs.
  • Provide ongoing S&H support and continually raise the level of Safety awareness and training of Plant management, Employees and Contractors.
  • Assists in developing and administering plant safety training programs. Ensures that site management maintains accurate record keeping of safety compliance and employee training records.
  • Lead local rollout of corporate safety initiatives.
  • Work as a liaison with Local, State and Federal regulatory agencies (MSHA. OSHA etc.).
  • Manage Workers’ Compensation and General Liability claims.
  • Conducts regular safety audits. Inspects facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, safety-related regulatory required documentation, to ensure safety regulation compliance. Recommends safety devices on machinery, or direct device installation. Evaluates adequacy of actions taken to correct health inspection violations.
  • Maintain knowledge of current best practices and changes regulations/policies.
  • Provide input into the purchase of safety­ related equipment.
  • Ensures safety systems are maintained and data is accurate. Completes required reporting for Corporate or Group analysis of safety statistics in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Reviews plans and specifications for the construction of new machinery or equipment to determine whether all safety requirements have been met.

What We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in related field AND/ OR a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant safety experience, preferably in Mining, Heavy Manufacturing or Construction environment.
  • Requires thorough knowledge of all applicable laws, MSHA/OSHA/ DOT regulations, safe work practices, accident prevention programs.
  • Experience with Worker’s Compensation laws and Injury Case Management.
  • Experience and competence in developing and implementing key (Training, Incident Investigation, Audit etc.) aspects of an industry leading Safety and Health program.
  • Strong management, communication and influencing skills from Management to Plant level employees.
  • Competent in coaching, teaching, and presenting.
  • Ability to form, facilitate and maintain internal and cross functional teams and relationships.
  • Competent in Federal, State and Local S&H regulations and the regulatory agencies governing the assigned facilities.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office software including Word and Excel.
  • Safety Accreditations such as CMSP or CSP are a plus.

Work Environment

  • Work is both in the office and out in the plants.
  • Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, climb and crawl regularly.
