MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Position Title: Maintenance Technician Date: 2024

Reports To: Director of Facility & Maintenance (DFM) FLSA: Non Exempt


NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION


The Maintenance Technician is responsible for collaborating with the maintenance, sanitation and production teams to maintain, repair, and replace production equipment. A main priority of the maintenance technician is to work to prevent equipment downtime by proactively identifying potential issues and existing workarounds and collaborating with the Director of Facility & Maintenance (DFM) for solutions. The Maintenance Technician will work closely and under the directions and guidance of the DFM to align priorities with overall production goals. This individual will understand the need to balance a self-starter attitude with team collaboration to ensure alignment on equipment use, safety, and technical solutions and will prioritize effective communication across teams. The hours for this position are 2pm-10pm at the production facility located in Canton, MA.

Requirements:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB TASKS

  • Read and write work orders to determine machines and equipment requiring repair or maintenance.
  • Service, repair, adjust, and test machines, devices, and moving parts on all production equipment on a regular and as needed basis as determined by work orders and at the direction of supervisors.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical problems to find the best course of action for repair including inspecting or testing damaged machine parts, marking defective areas or advising supervisors of repair needs.
  • Assume responsibility for the proper maintenance, repair and use of all production equipment.
  • Observe production to identify work-arounds, and detect potential problems with equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed both independently and at the direction of the Director of Facility & Maintenance.
  • Work collaboratively and communicate with the team, and across multiple production shifts on repairs and equipment issues to limit equipment downtime, maintain equipment and ensure proper use of machines.
  • Assist with the documentation of repair or maintenance records.
  • Assist in maintaining inventories of materials, equipment, and products.
  • Order materials, supplies and equipment at the direction or approval of supervisors and directors.
  • Provide coverage for emergency repairs on a rotating basis with the other members of the maintenance team.
  • Follow all SQF practices and applicable regulatory requirements as trained and directed by management.

REQUIRED SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES

  • Strong troubleshooting skills to determine the cause of operating problems and deciding how to resolve them.
  • Advanced problem sensitivity to determine when something is wrong or likely to go wrong to flag existing or potential problems with equipment.
  • Solid deductive and inductive reasoning to produce solutions that make sense for the organization and situation.
  • Ability to multitask, and prioritize across various pieces of equipment to align with production goals and needs
  • Strong observational skills to assist in identifying problems before they occur.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work on a team, and collaborate with the Director of Maintenance on organizational priorities
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 2-4 years of mechanical/ electrical maintenance technician experience
  • Experience in a food production setting a plus
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proven mechanical and electrical skills
  • Ability to read English and interpret technical manuals and schematics
  • Familiarity with industrial equipment such as conveyors, mixers, and packaging machines
  • Working knowledge of Limble and or Wherefour is a plus

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Monday through Friday 2pm-10pm with the possibility for overtime, and occasional overtime and scheduled weekend hours
  • This position requires work to be conducted in a warehouse and bakery production environment where conditions can be extreme including but not limited to, heat, cold, loud noises and more
  • Requires frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling, crouching and occasional sitting
  • This job requires the ability to lift up to 100 pounds
  • Requires multi limb coordination, finger dexterity, manual dexterity and short sightedness
  • This position might require flexibility to accommodate the potential for a varying schedule, that could include early morning and late night work hours
