SUMMARY: The Senior Accountant is responsible for applying accounting principles to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports for all gaming and non-gaming operations by performing the following duties.

EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS INCLUDE (OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED):

  • Provide outstanding customer service to guests and all other employees by exceeding our mission statement.
  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare journal entries for general ledger accounts.
  • Collects information to summarize current financial status and prepares balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other reports.
  • Prepare and maintain worksheets for all cash on hand and bank account reconciliations.
  • Prepare account reconciliations to agree with sub-ledger details with general ledger balance for balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare data for filing federal, state, and local reports and tax returns.
  • Guide accounting clerical staff by coordinating activities and answering questions.
  • Prepare weekly reports for internal departments.
  • Oversee intercompany billing and shared costs internally.
  • Participate in random Inventory audits for various Casino venues.
  • Prepare documentation for external audits and all regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with all Minimum Internal Control Standards (MICS) and all State Internal Control Standards (SICS).
  • Complies with federal, state, and local financial and legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Present a positive image of the Affinity Gaming organization to its guests and vendors and assist them as required.
  • Must follow all safety policies and procedures and attend all scheduled safety meetings and training as a condition of employment.
  • Promote cooperative behavior and team efforts throughout the department and company.
  • Periodically complete Count Team duties such as emptying money and tickets from all slot machines, counting and bundling the money and tickets collected, emptying the table games daily, counting and bundling these monies, and counting and bundling monies from all other revenue centers.
  • Ensure, maintain, and understand departmental compliance with federal and state-local regulations.
  • Perform all job functions safely and responsibly.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position supervises Accounts Payable team member(s) and is responsible for this department's overall direction, coordination, and evaluation. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor's degree from a four-year College or University is preferred but not required.
  • Minimum two years of accounting work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS - Must be able to obtain and maintain an Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission License.
