Primary Purpose of Department:

The Niblock Student Center in the Belk College of Business is comprised of two teams, Academic and Career Coaching and Professional Development. The Niblock Student Center provides comprehensive and transformative support for undergraduate Belk College of Business students in order to graduate career-ready professionals. The Niblock Student Center supports these students by:

  • Encouraging students to discover their strengths, values, interests and goals through self-assessment and the effective use of resources in order to make intentional academic and career decisions.
  • Promoting strategic academic planning and experiential learning in order to develop professionalism, critical-thinking, communication and leadership skills, self-efficacy, and a collaborative mindset.
  • Facilitating timely degree completion and empowering students to apply their educational experiences, feel confident in their career destination, and engage in lifelong learning.
Primary Purpose of Position:

The Senior Associate Director of Academic and Career Coaching reports to the Assistant Dean & Director of Academic and Career Coaching within the Belk College of Business. The Senior Associate Director of Academic and Career Coaching provides academic advising and career development guidance for undergraduate students in the Belk College of Business, supervises other Academic and Career Coaching professional staff, and manages significant programs and projects that help the Academic and Career Coaching office implement its mission and document its progress.

Summary of Position Responsibilities:

The Senior Associate Director of Academic and Career Coaching advises and counsels undergraduate business students in their progress toward degree completion in the Belk College of Business, coaches students through the career development process, supervises Academic and Career Coaching professional staff, coordinates and provides group presentations and workshops, serves as a specialist for and liaison to an academic department in the college, oversees all aspects of the on-boarding of new staff, ongoing training for staff, continuous improvement for the unit in conjunction with the unit leadership. Also, implements and administers University and Belk College of Business policies.

Minimum Education/Experience:
  • A Master’s degree in career counseling, student development, higher education, or business is required along with;
  • 5+ years of experience in business or student counseling at an academic institution with supervision of other professional staff.
  • One year of UNC Charlotte advising experience at the Associate Director level and have completed professional development units as determined by the Advising Leadership Council is required.
  • Academic advising and career coaching of undergraduate-level business students is highly desirable and direct knowledge of professional development for business students and background in business administration is preferred.

  • The ideal candidate will possess polished interpersonal communication skills, training and counseling skills.
  • The candidate should demonstrate a professional demeanor that establishes credibility quickly, inspires confidence and builds positive relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to demonstrate tact, diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality is required.
  • Outstanding presentation skills enabling effective, influential communication with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, alumni and business community is vital to this position.
  • Attention to detail, task orientation and ability to work collaboratively as well as independently to achieve institutional goals and objectives is expected.
  • Proficiency with various computer applications, Microsoft Office, and web technology are essential skills.
