Position Description

 

Job Title:          CIS External Relations Coordinator

Work Schedule:     32 hours/week x 48 weeks/year

Reports to:       CIS Executive Director                                                         

FSLA Status:      Non-Exempt

Primary Purpose:

The External Relations Coordinator is an outward-facing position that coordinates our community advocacy, partner engagement, volunteer, and donor development efforts with skill and enthusiasm. Equally strong in written and interpersonal communication, the External Relations Coordinator develops and maintains relationships with community partners, volunteers, and donors to grow awareness and philanthropic support of our work.



Responsibilities:

Marketing and Community Advocacy:

  • Coordinate marketing and communication strategies across all platforms including e-news, radio, social media, billboards/signage, website and print.
  • Identify new avenues for collaboration and advocacy within our partner schools and in the communities we serve.

Community Partner Engagement:

  • Grow awareness of our organization among community partners, local businesses, organizations, and other potential partners.
  • Serve as a liaison between community partners and school sites, orient partners that provide service delivery as needed.
  • Assist Executive Director in developing Memorandum of Understanding/Agreements with community service partners.

 Volunteer Coordination:

  • Recruit volunteers to support programs (e.g. mentoring program) and special events as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison between volunteers and school sites, training volunteers as needed.
  • Ensure that volunteers are well-informed and engaged in our mission.

 Fundraising and Sponsorships:

  • Assist Executive Director in our fund development efforts by deepening relationships with existing donors and cultivating new ones.
  • Create content with a fundraising focus, to include appeals and donor updates.
  • Coordinate fundraising and outreach events in conjunction with board (Fund Development Committee) and staff.
  • Plan and carry out communications and mailings in advance of events to ensure participation.
  • Recruit and engage potential sponsors for fundraising events.

 Regular Duties:

  • Coordinate and execute special events.
  • Develop written content to include: creating a content plan, writing and disseminating content for social media, print newsletters, and our e-newsletters to key audiences.
  • Source success stories from our CIS Coordinators and write them for marketing collateral.
  • Coordinate Media relations, including writing/distributing press releases and securing media coverage.
  • Identify advertising opportunities on radio, billboards, and other mediums as requested.
  • Assist Executive Director with grant activities including grant research and grant writing.
  • Maintain our website.

 Other duties within the scope of the employee’s skills and abilities as assigned by the supervisor.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree with 2-3 years of experience in communications, marketing, and fundraising.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Creative writing skills
  • Familiarity with managing websites
  • Visual media skills, such as graphic design or video editing
  • Event planning experience
  • Experience and knowledge of the following:
  • MS Office Suite
  • Google Suite
  • Canva
  • MailChimp (or other email marketing platform)
  • Kindful (or other donor management software)
  • WordPress (or other website development platform)

 

Language Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to analyze and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical manuals, and governmental regulations. Ability to write and edit reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and the general public, orally and in writing. Ability to speak effectively to guest, candidates or employees of the organization.

 Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

 Work Environment

  • The position is located at the CIS Main Office with regular travel within the communities served by CIS of Northwest Michigan. Regular and satisfactory attendance and punctuality are required.

 

 Salary and Benefits:
