Job Description

The position of Professional Driver consists of driving a car, minivan, or full-size van to transport passengers throughout the state primarily to medical appointments. It also consists of assisting passengers with mobility aids, bags, or personal items. Drivers are also required to collect member signatures or other information.

Tasks

  • Passenger Focus:
    • Always provide excellent passenger service by being respectful and courteous.
    • Escort passengers to and from origination point to destination.
    • Maintain confidentiality about passenger information.
    • Assist passengers in and out of the vehicle and ensure they are seated and secured properly in the vehicle.
    • Collect signatures or cash fares from passengers.
  • Transport Focus:
    • Safely operate vehicles by complying with traffic regulations.
    • Respond to call center agents who dispatch trips.
    • Ensure passengers and other riders are safe and comfortable.
    • Drive vehicles over specified routes or to specified destinations according to time schedules.
  • Operational Focus:
    • Ability to demonstrate interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with passengers, call center agents, co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
    • Ability to sufficiently convey information and to receive work direction.
    • Ability to maintain organizational logs and documents.
    • Ability to clean and maintain the assigned vehicle.
    • Handle passenger emergencies or disruptions immediately and promptly report delays or accidents to the call center.
    • Report ticketed driving infractions and any accidents regardless of fault incurred either in company or privately-owned vehicle.
    • Inspect vehicles, check gas, oil, and water levels prior to first daily departure.
    • Park vehicles at loading areas so passengers can safely enter/exit the vehicle.
    • Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor and/or manager.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to pass a drug and alcohol screen, background check and motor vehicle report check.
  • Ability to control operations of equipment or systems, to monitor gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a vehicle is working properly.
  • Strong GPS user skills and knowledge of the state of Ohio map.
  • Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying.

Working Conditions

  • Drivers are considered essential employees in all circumstances; and therefore, drive twelve months a year in all weather conditions and during states of emergency
  • Occasionally, drivers drive long hours and many miles in a day.
  • Drivers collaborate with the assigned manager to create a work schedule that is conducive for the driver and the company.
  • The company pays all vehicle and fuel expenses.
