Maritime Technology Consultant

Maritime Technology Consultant – Los Angeles (Contract) Sierra Cybernetics is seeking a Maritime Technology Consultant to work for us supporting potential upcoming work for our government client – the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro, CA. As a Maritime Technology Consultant, you must have a deep understanding of maritime technology solutions and industry applications. Your role involves collaborating with clients to assess requirements, devise customized technology solutions, and offer continual support and guidance. Additionally, you will develop innovative technology solutions, implement and configure maritime technology systems, and deliver training and support to clients. Responsibilities: Advise and Optimize: Leverage your expertise to advise clients on technology upgrades to enhance efficiency and safety. Technical Expertise: Provide in-depth technical knowledge related to ports, marine services, and vessel traffic and safety. Business Analysis: Analyze maritime data, conduct feasibility studies, and contribute to the design of critical projects. Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, navigators, and compliance experts. Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in maritime technology consulting Strong knowledge of maritime technology systems and applications Knowledge of maritime safety and security regulations Marine Technology Solutions:Evaluate emerging technologies and their impact on the maritime sector. Propose innovative solutions to enhance vessel safety and communication compatibilities. Provide support for maritime systems, including network infrastructure, security protocols, and data management. Ensure seamless integration of technological solutions into existing operations. Risk Management:Conduct risk assessments related to vessel safety, cybersecurity, and data management. Develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans. Data Analytics:Utilize maritime data to derive actionable insights. Assist clients in making informed decisions related to fleet management, port traffic, and performance optimization. Preferred Qualifications: Certifications in maritime technology or related fields Experience working with government or regulatory agencies in the maritime industry. Knowledge of communication systems, navigation technology, data management, and cybersecurity in a maritime context. Extra Consideration for Any of The Following: Implementing AIS (Automatic Identification System): Advising on installation and use of AIS equipment on vessels to improve navigation safety and vessel tracking. Cybersecurity Assessment: Conducting a cybersecurity assessment for a port authority to identify vulnerabilities in IT systems. Satellite Communication Systems: Assisting in selecting and implementing satellite communication systems for reliable and efficient communication between vessels and onshore operations. Training and Education: Providing training sessions or workshops to maritime personnel on the use of new or existing technologies. Environmental Monitoring Systems: Designing and implementing systems to monitor environmental parameters (such as pollution levels or marine life) around ports or in maritime zones. Remote Sensing Technologies: Evaluating the use of remote sensing technologies (such as drones or satellite imagery) for maritime surveillance, environmental monitoring, or search and rescue operations.
