About this job

The Relief Youth Specialist works intermittently or as needed to cover a shift normally worked by a full-time Behavioral or Youth Specialist in the licensed residential services. Primarily, they help to ensure the safety, support and supervision of all youth receiving residential services.

  • Maintain a safe living environment.
  • Model and teach self-regulation.
  • Promote a sense of community and safety.
  • Support the utilization of conflict resolution skills.
  • Utilize preventative floor management techniques to address challenging behaviors.

Youth Engagement

  • Listen to and address individual youth concerns.
  • Provide personal attention.
  • Respect confidentiality.
  • Build positive relationships with youths.
  • Interact with empathy and without judgement.

Daily Tasks

  • Supervise and assist with household tasks.
  • Plan recreational activities and outings.
  • Assist youth with homework and school assignments.
  • Prepare meals and snacks as needed.

Supervision and Monitoring

  • Stay in close contact to maintain awareness of the whereabouts of the youths.
  • Monitor health and behaviors.
  • Transport youth to appointments and outings.
  • Report any concerns regarding abuse and/or neglect.
Communication and Record Keeping
  • Objectively document behavioral events.
  • Maintain daily communication logs.
  • Record medication and fund disbursements.

We require:


  • High School diploma or GED equivalent is required. Bachelor’s degree in a humanservice field preferred.
  • A minimum of 6 months of full-time experience, providing direct service to youth in a work or volunteer capacity.
  • Experience working with youth who are homeless and/or involved in the foster care system.
  • Experience working with immigrant and refugee youth is preferred.
  • 21 years of age or older.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check & TB test.
  • WA Driver’s license with a safe driving record
  • Proof of the following vaccinations: Covid-19, Influenza, MMR, Varicella, and Tdap.
