Special Education Teacher for Middle School in Henryetta, OK - 2024-2025 School Year

As a Special Education Teacher for Severe and Profound students, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of students with complex disabilities. You will provide specialized instruction, support, and care to a small group of students with severe and profound disabilities, helping them develop essential life skills, communication abilities, and independence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide highly individualized instruction, support, and care to students with severe and profound disabilities in a self-contained classroom setting.
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that address students' unique learning needs, abilities, and goals, with a focus on functional life skills and communication.
  • Adapt and modify curriculum materials, instructional strategies, and assessments to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of students with complex disabilities.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional methods, assistive technologies, and sensory materials to engage students and promote their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.
  • Collaborate closely with related service providers, paraprofessionals, and support staff to ensure a holistic and integrated approach to supporting students' academic, communication, and personal care needs.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel safe, valued, and respected, and where their individual strengths and abilities are celebrated.
  • Establish positive and collaborative relationships with students' families, providing regular communication, support, and resources to promote family involvement and partnership in their child's education and development.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and engage in ongoing collaboration with colleagues to enhance knowledge and skills in supporting students with severe and profound disabilities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Valid teaching license in Special Education (Oklahoma certification required).
  • At least 1 year of experience working with students with severe and profound disabilities, preferably in a middle school setting.
  • Strong understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices in instruction, assessment, and behavior management for students with complex disabilities.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Dedication to fostering a nurturing, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where all students can thrive and reach their full potential.
