Description

Job Summary:

The Care Associate will provide basic care to residents and perform basic nursing procedures under the direction of the licensed nurse.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Accurately perform and record vital signs, height, and weight.
  • Assists residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transferring and getting to and from activities and meals according to the individual service plan.
  • Maintain a clean and safe resident environment.
  • Recognize abnormal changes in body functioning and the importance of reporting such changes to a supervisor.
  • Perform palliative and post-mortem care as needed.
  • Perform routine care rounds on each assigned resident, at minimum, every two hours (or more frequently as indicated).
  • Follows proper procedures in emergency situations and responds promptly and positively to resident requests for assistance.
  • Knows the location of each resident, reminds them to sign out when they leave the building, and notifies the supervisor immediately if unable to locate a resident.
  • Follows proper procedure for clocking in and out for shifts.
  • Follows guidelines for uniforms and wears name badge daily.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

Required Skills & Abilities: 

  • Excellent judgement and decision-making skills.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology.
  • Able to concentrate with frequent interruptions.
  • Able to communicate in English, talk and hear effectively to convey instructions and information to residents and team members.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education & Experience: 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and 1-2 years’ experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Graduate of a state approved nursing assistant training program and passed a state approved competency examination (written and skills) (C.N.A. only)

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk 75% of the day; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear, pushing, pulling or grasping. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 50 pounds.
  • Subject to reactions from dust, disinfectants and cleaning chemicals and may be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, and other conditions.
  • Use personal protective equipment and supplies when needed.
