Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Nonprofit Accounting Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and experience with nonprofit accounting practices. As a Nonprofit Accounting Manager, you will play a vital role in ensuring the financial integrity and transparency of our organization. The Accounting Manager position will prepare reports, stats, and financial paperwork for the Finance committee, department directors, and Executive Director. This role will help assist the Executive Director and the other directors with clerical duties at the physical office and remotely. Some of these items include but are not limited to preparing/overseeing payroll, paying invoices, creating invoices, preparing and analyzing monthly financials, managing state and federal taxes, as well as work comp payments, assisting in filing our yearly audit, and Leading the annual budget process. This position will also help with insurance questions and keeping updated physical and electronic files of all paperwork. Weekly deposits and any donation information to our donation recorder that we receive in the mail or office. Filing paperwork at the office when needed and scanning in necessary records or other materials. Understanding the inner workings of the rescue will be necessary to perform this job successfully.

Availability:

The ability and willingness to allow for a flexible schedule are key. This is a salaried position with a time commitment of at least 40 hours a week. Most of these hours can be done remotely, but you must be in the office (Princeton) at least three days a week.

Lead and Supervise:

  • Potential for oversight of Accounting department staff in the future.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Lead the annual budget process. Ensure expenses and revenue projections are appropriate and fiscally responsible. Prepare annual budget for submission.

  • Proactively report updates, key metrics, and all matters of importance to the Executive Director.

  • Provide timely and accurate analysis of the organization’s fiscal condition and trends

  • Proactively establish appropriate fiscal policies, controls, and separations of duties.

  • Coordinate the annual financial audit, preparation, and submission of the IRS 990 report, 550 filings, State of MN, and any mandatory reporting

  • Input and verify payroll master file maintenance data; input, reconcile and update payroll hours for payment; Prepare payroll and assess time cards; work with our payroll company.

  • Ensure retirement plan Is fully compliant with state and federal regulations.

  • Keeping up with paying state and federal taxes

  • Paying workman comp payments as well as making sure everything is up to date

  • Helping assist with insurance setup, questions, and contacting our insurance agency if needed.

  • Make sure we receive receipts for all payments made or due. Keeping everything on file, physical and electronic filing needed.

  • Maintain documentation files for review by auditors

  • Random clerical and administrative tasks

  • Responsible for weekly Paypal transfers and bank deposits

  • Keep all files updated and in order

  • Perform data entry tasks and create reports

  • Monitor bank account activity using the internet and QuickBooks

  • Responsible for all accounts receivables and payables.

  • Prepare monthly financial reports and Finance committee agenda within the time frame established by the Executive Director.

  • Sending donation information to the donation department

  • Organize, design, implement, direct, and evaluate the organization’s fiscal function and performance.

  • Other duties as assigned

Specific Job Skills and Requirements:

●Associate's Degree in Accounting and three (3) years of related payroll accounting/treasury experience.

  • Working knowledge of principles of payroll accounting, treasury operation, and the general accounting process; working knowledge of modern office methods, procedures, and equipment.

  • GAAP and Non-profit accounting experience preferred

  • Ability to keep financial records and prepare financial reports; communicate verbally and in writing; create effective working relationships with employees and other departments.

  • Must be proficient in Quickbooks. Quickbooks for nonprofits is a plus.

  • Must be able to communicate objectives and goals professionally.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office, especially Word and Excel

Meetings/Participation:

  • Prepare and report to the monthly Finance Committee meetings

  • Provides annual feedback to the Board.

  • Attend and take part in any major events where the leadership team should be present
