This Grounds Supervisor is responsible for providing assistance and, in the absence of the Project Manager, leadership and oversight in supporting all grounds maintenance contract requirements on industrial, commercial, or public property such as buildings, camp, and picnic grounds, parks, playgrounds, greenhouses, and athletic fields and repair structures and equipment. Ensure day-to-day production schedules and operations of the federal site grounds maintenance contract are met. Assist in managing cost center purchasing and budget by ensuring minimum waste of equipment, products, and materials assigned to the crew.

  • Responsible for directing the day-to-day operations of the federal site grounds maintenance contract and implementing programmatic and administrative policies and procedures in order to attain company goals and objectives.
  • Supervise work designated by the Project Manager.
  • Review and implement safety procedures to meet federal and company standards; monitor activities where accidents may occur, halting any operation or activity that constitutes an imminent hazard to personnel or equipment, and assist in the activities of the safety committee by providing technical and administrative support.
  • Foster an atmosphere that promotes Human Rights for all clients and ensures training, incident reporting, appropriate counseling documentation, and awareness of responsibilities of all personnel regarding Human Rights matters.
  • Responsible for working with a positive team spirit and producing quality work.
  • Responsible for appropriate conduct and demeanor as dictated by Didlake Policy.
  • Provide technical and procedural guidance to a labor crew of three to four laborers performing one or more of the following tasks:
    • Cut grass, using walk-behind type or riding mowers (less than 2000 lbs.).
    • Trim hedges and edges around walks, plant beds, and other areas designated within the contract
  • Statement of work, using hedge trimmers, clippers, and edging tools. Authorized licensed supervisor.
  • Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth, using shears and other hand tools.
  • Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs. Cultivates planting beds.
  • Water lawn and shrubs during dry periods using a hose or activating sprinkler system.
  • Picks up and burns or carts away leaves, paper, or other litter.
  • Removes snow from walks, driveways, roads, or parking lots, using shovel and snowblower.
  • Spreads salt on walkways and other areas.
  • Repairs and paints fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails, and outbuildings.
  • Assists in repairs of roads, walks, buildings, and mechanical equipment.
  • May clean comfort stations, office, and workshop areas, and parking lots by sweeping, blowing, washing, mopping, and polishing.
  • Liaison with the Contract Operations Administrator, Project Manager, and Facility Managers to ensure all services are within the contract specifications.
  • To direct 3 or 4 grounds personnel, provide quality assurance (in conjunction with the
  • Quality Control Team) and ensure rework services are completed when required.
  • Assist in selecting Employee of the Month.
  • Perform on-the-job safety and hazard training, as well as training in task procedures and requirements.
  • Monitor customer concerns and service schedules.
  • Assume the duties and responsibilities of the Project Manager and Assistant Project Manager in their absence.
  • Assist Lead Workers as assigned by the Project Manager.
  • Effective and cooperative interaction with management, supervisory staff, site engine maintenance foreman, co-workers, and disabled program participants.
  • Read and interpret a myriad of documents; including but not limited to site maps, equipment operating maintenance manuals, government contracts, grounds SOPs/specifications, and schedules.
  • Being on call 24 hours a day to assist the Project Manager with the contractual specifications.
  • Serves as a primary liaison between the Didlake Greater Hampton Roads corporate office and its clients and staff.
  • Serves as a team leader who is responsible for establishing and maintaining a positive and constructive team spirit among all Didlake/site staff members.
  • Liaison with Local Union Representatives to ensure criteria contained in the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is adhered to; reporting any CBA conflicts to the Project Manager, Director of Operations, and HRD.
  • Assures appropriate conduct and decorum as dictated by Didlake policy and procedure.
  • Completes required paperwork and/or documentation.
  • Completes and maintains all Didlake required training.
  • Project a positive and professional image to the public, co-workers, and Didlake clients.
  • If required, drive a company vehicle to transport equipment, material, and personnel to assigned workstations.
