HVAC Technician

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Installs, maintains and repairs HVAC equipment; tanks, pumps, timers, valves and controls
• Installs, maintains and repairs air handlers and related equipment; air supply, return, motors, fans and vents
• Installs, maintains and repairs chilled water related equipment and condensers; water pumps, valves, regulators and chemicals
• Safely troubleshoot and repair all types of HVAC manufacturing and plant equipment
• Demonstrate the initiative to investigate and offer improvements to plant operations
• Work safely and follow all established plant safety policies and procedures
• Communicate appropriately with all site management employees
• Service, clean, inspect and repair equipment periodically following established PMs
• Safely operate mobile equipment such as fork trucks, carts, trucks, lifts, boom lifts, etc.
• Create notifications and follow up on needed repairs and order required parts
• Utilize problem solving techniques in interacting with other employees in resolving issues
• Must be able to work independently and as a member of a team
• Input data into Carrier’s TMS work order and asset management system
• Knowledge of HVAC or refrigeration tools, equipment and materials common to the trade
• Knowledge of repair, maintenance and installation techniques
• Knowledge of all HVAC trade codes, standards and regulations
• Skill in reading and understanding schematics
• Skill in analyzing HVAC or refrigeration malfunctions from performance and test equipment
• Skill in installation, repair and maintenance of all systems and assignments common to the trade
• Perform miscellaneous duties as required

Minimum Standards:

• High School Diploma - Technical school preferred
• 3 to 5 years work experience in the HVAC trade in the previous 5 years
• Combination of 10 years of HVAC experience, College degree, technical school or formal apprenticeship program.
• Combination of 5 years of HVAC experience, College degree, technical school or formal apprenticeship program.
• Basic computer skills
• Pass prescribed heating, ventilation, and air conditioning test
• Experience with HVAC trade codes, standards and regulations
• Experience with reading and understanding schematics
• Experience with electrical & mechanical controls
• Experience in welding, braising, and soldering processes
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches
• Prepare and order parts and material needed for jobs
• Knowledge of industry best practice of safety procedures, including Arc Flash Protection, and Lock Out Tag Out procedures.
• Be able to perform advanced math calculations
• Current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency
• Pass skilled trade’s management interview
