Telecommunications Engineer

About the Position:

The Telecommunications Engineer assists with supporting the activities of the Telecommunications department to ensure that all ITS needs of our client are met. You will report to the Telecommunications manager. Someone who can receive guests with outstanding service within the clients guidelines will excel in this position. The position will require you to focus on designing, developing, and managing communication systems and networks.



Position Requirements:

• Must have at least 10 years in construction, network services, or cable/telecommunication related field.
• Knowledge of Data, video, and telephony distribution systems.
• knowledge of Nortel/Avaya PBX CS1000 programming.
• extensive knowledge of fiber splicing, OTDR, and other fiber optic diagnostic/troubleshooting tools.
• Must be able to adhere to ANSI/TIA-606-B.
• knowledge of cable/telecommunication theory of operation and construction procedures.
• Extensive knowledge of the BICSI ITS codes and standards.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Must have precise documentation skills.
• Must have superior organization, planning, delegating, and time management skills.
• BICSI RCDD Certificate or the ability to obtain one preferred.
• Plan the layout of Fiber optic cables, considering factors like distance, bandwidth requirements, and potential obstacles.
• Performs/oversees the installation of Fiber optic cables, ensuring they are laid out properly, protected from environmental factors, and meet industry standards for performance and safety.
• Conduct tests to verify the integrity and performance of the Fiber optic network.
• Ensures the completion of projects according to plans, specifications, schedules, budgets, and contractual commitments.
• Ensures that all plant upgrades meet specifications by coordinating activities that minimize breaks in service and outages, and by facilitating internal and external communications.

Additional Requirements:

The position has some physical demands that include the following:

• Climbing, kneeling crawling, and lifting objects 25 to 50 pounds for 1 to 3 hours occasionally.
• Standing, walking, sitting, pushing, pulling, twisting, pulling, gripping, repetitive movements, fine hand manipulation, Lifting objects under 25 pounds, and reaching for 3 – 6 hours frequently.
• Lifting objects over 50 pounds will rarely be required of you.
