Schedule for the Part Time Registered Dental Hygienist:

  • Friday: 7:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Responsibilities and Requirements of the Registered Dental Hygienist:

  • Wisconsin Hygiene License required

  • Promotes dental health by completing dental prophylaxis; providing oral cancer screening and radiographic studies; charting conditions of decay and disease

  • Prepares a treatment room for patients by adhering to prescribed procedures and protocols.

  • Maintains instrumentation for dental hygiene visits by evaluating the patient's oral health.

  • Completes dental prophylaxis by cleaning deposits and stains from teeth and from beneath gum margins.

  • Identifies areas or potential pathology by completing oral cancer screening; feeling and visually examining gums

  • Detecting periodontal disease with 6-point periodontal probing, recession, bleeding, furcation, CAL, and assessing levels of bone loss.

  • Obtaining necessary radiographic, iTero scan, and intra-oral camera images for documentation and patient education.

  • Use of patient-oriented educational videos as needed for patient education.

  • Obtains proper documentation(written, intra-oral pictures, necessary radiographs for proposed treatment).

  • Creates an organized, thorough treatment plan for front office presentations to patients.

  • Applies fluorides and other cavity-preventing agents as needed.

  • Administers anesthetic as necessary.

  • Administers nitrous oxide as necessary.

  • Helps dentists manage dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR certification, emergency drugs, and oxygen supplies.

  • Educates patients by giving oral hygiene and plaque control instructions and postoperative instructions

  • Documents dental hygiene services by recording vital signs and medical and dental histories; charting in patient records.

  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by complying with all HIPAA guidelines.

  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to OSHA infection-control policies and protocols.

  • Ensures operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.

  • Maintains dental supply inventory by checking stock to determine inventory levels and anticipating needed supplies.

  • Communicates with Lead Clinical Assistant, Lead Hygienist or Patterson representatives to place orders for needed supplies and verifying receipt of supplies.

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
