We are looking for compassionate Community Support Specialist to work in ShelterCare's Medical Recuperation Unit (SMR). What we offer:

ShelterCare is a non-profit that believes in "housing first", we meet people where they are. The Community Support Specialist works directly with individuals experiencing homelessness and may be diagnosed with serious mental illness who are in a temporary shelter while they recuperate for a hospital stay. You will be a vital member of a team who will coordinate services for participants to receive ongoing care while at our ShelterCare Medical Recuperation Unit (SMR) and help transition them to housing.

The starting wage for this position is $20.13 to $20.48 /per hour depending on a number of factors. This position is considered essential and will be required to work holidays as scheduled. If it's a ShelterCare paid holiday, you will receive holiday pay plus pay for your time worked. The schedule for this position is Tuesday through Saturday.

What you bring to ShelterCare:

Required

  • 3 years in healthcare or social services

- or -

Bachelor's degree in healthcare or social services

  • All qualified candidates must have relevant volunteer or employment experience working with homeless individuals and a comprehensive understanding of, and comfort operating within the homeless community
  • Good organization skills
  • Ability to drive agency vehicles
  • Ability to successfully pass a DHS background check
  • Willingness and ability to work with individuals exhibiting mental health distress and symptoms

Preferred

  • Prior electronic health records experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness.
