Job Description

This is a full time position located at the Chattaroy clinic of MLIH in Mingo County, WV.

POSITION PURPOSE:

This position is necessary to assure the effective and efficient delivery of integrated care services. It requires a thorough knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; ability to type accurately at a fast rate, ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public; ability to secure cooperation and establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, staff, and the general public; ability to accept supervision and follow instructions; ability to perform duties with a minimum of supervision; ability to handle matters of a confidential nature, and provide support to the clinical staff completing basic medical tasks.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Assist providers with exams and procedures.
  2. Administer medications or injections as needed.
  3. Document patient information in the electronic health record and/or paper charts.
  4. Measure and record vital signs.
  5. Record patient information and basic information about current and previous conditions.
  6. Arrange exam room instruments and equipment.
  7. Change wound dressings and take wound cultures.
  8. Remove sutures or staples from minor cuts.
  9. Answer phone calls and questions as needed.
  10. Give instruction and information to patients, including calling patients after receiving reports.
  11. Provide a single dose of oral medication to a patient, as ordered by the physician, for the patient to take on his or her own, under the medical assistant’s supervision.
  12. Prepare patient for examination.
  13. Collect specimens as needed.
  14. Call in prescription orders or refills to the pharmacy, but only as ordered and approved by the physician.
  15. Perform nasopharyngeal swabs and collect nasal swab samples, as needed.
  16. Assist in COVID-19 testing, including at fixed and intermittent sites by collecting samples for testing and completing all necessary paperwork for this service.
  17. Enter data electronically into clinical recordkeeping and billing systems and record all events involving patients of MLIH on a daily basis.
  18. Medical Assistants play a key role in Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) and care of patients with chronic medical conditions, by performing the following duties (including, but not limited to):
  1. Triage patients and their calls.
  2. Manage patient rooms- take vitals, document chief complaint and history of present illness (HPI), review and reconcile medications.
  3. Flag abnormal results and alert providers.
  4. Administer medications/give injections at the direction of the provider.
  5. Assist in performing Comprehensive Health Assessment.
  6. Assist in identifying preventative care needs.
  7. Participate in daily huddles.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or equivalent. Must be a licensed medical assistant (Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA). Two years of successful office or related work. This position requires the employee to be certified in CPR and First Aid on a two-year basis. Must be able to pass a skills test administered by nursing staff of the agency.
