JOB SUMMARY

Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool(s), pool deck(s), and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere promoting safety, engagement, and family fun per Great Escapes RV Resorts policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (These duties include, but are not limited to):

  1. Knows and understands all emergency procedures and responds to emergencies immediately and appropriately according to standards, policies, and procedures.
  2. Knows, understands, and consistently enforces safety rules, swim testing procedures, policies, and guidelines for the pool(s) and aquatics area(s).
  3. Performs maintenance of the pool(s) and pool area(s) to assure high safety and cleanliness standards, including vacuuming, cleaning the pool deck, pool tiles, and trash-pick-up.
  4. Performs pool chemical testing and maintains accurate records, as required by state standards, policies and procedures, and the state health department code.
  5. Performs daily equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available, as needed.
  6. Checks for pool hazards when arriving and continues to monitor risks to prevent accidents before they occur.
  7. Maintains all required certifications per standards, policies, and procedures.
  8. Attends all staff meetings and training, as required by standards, policies, procedures, and state health department code requirements. Minimum of four (4) hours in-service per month.
  9. Maintains vigilant surveillance of the pool and notices a potential victim in 10 seconds, and reaches/effectively rescues within 20 seconds.
  10. Maintains effective relationships with the members, participants, and other staff. Communicates rules and policies while being "firm, fair, and tactful."
  11. Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  12. Follows incident reporting requirements.

MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Respond to guest inquiries using the company's service recovery guidelines
  2. Presents professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintains a high standard of customer service.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Minimum age of 16 years.
  2. Demonstrate lifeguard skills per standards, policies, and procedures.
  3. Current Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard certification
  4. Current/or must obtain before first scheduled shift: ASHI certifications for CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen (Administration), Workplace Harassment and Bullying, Universal Precautions, and New Staff Orientation Assessment.
  5. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  6. Ability to read, interpret, retain and teach safety rules, maintenance instructions, and aquatics education manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of children, parents, members, and other staff, as well as one-on-one situations.
  7. Possess excellent organization and project management skills, leadership skills, and the ability to manage and complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
  8. Possess exceptional guest relations skills
  9. Weekend hours are required
  10. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergencies.
  11. Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
  12. Ability to pass a pre-employment physical skills evaluation as stipulated by the department.
  13. Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
  14. Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.

The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and taste and smell. The employee must often move and/or lift to 50 pounds and perform effective rescues regardless of weight. Possess adequate vision and hearing to safely monitor and aquatic environment and children. Ability to remain alert, continuously scan all pool areas with a clear vision, and perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue. Ability to hear voices, distinguish distress signals and communicate verbally, including projecting the voice across distance in both every day and loud situations. This position is an extremely physically active position.
