Summary

It is the mission of Lafontaine Learning Community to provide a Christ-centered environment that allows children to reach their fullest potential through positive, rich, and meaningful experiences. As a Christian child care, we believe nurturing spiritual development is essential. We teach character building and spiritual formation through a Biblical perspective. The Assistant Teacher is responsible for working under the guidance of the lead teacher and helping manage the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Assistants must understand children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Assistant Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children.

Duties

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist teacher in implementing educational curriculum and classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.
  • Support children's emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
  • Observe, monitor, and keep records of individual children's activities.
  • Assist in day-to-day activities including but not limited to: diapering, feeding, cleaning, and food preparation.
  • Be prepared to temporarily teach and manage the classroom when the teacher is not present.
  • Communicate with children's parents or guardians about daily activities and progress.
  • Ensure all ministry policies and state regulations are met.
  • With Director, maintain a personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.


Requirements

Educational Requirements
  • High school diploma, 18+ years of age (must be 21+ to work in infant room)
  • CDA preferred. (or willingness to obtain CDA after hire)
  • Continuing education each year per state guidelines.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
  • Minimum of 1 year of childcare experience preferred.
  • High energy and ability to work well with others in a team environment.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills; technology skills.
  • A strong understanding of child development.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Must clear full background check.
  • Must pass health screening.
