POSITION OVERVIEW

The Exhibit Maintenance Specialist works closely with the Exhibits team to support in the fabrication, assembly, and maintenance of museum quality exhibits. The Exhibit Maintenance Specialist ensures the safety and functionality of all exhibits, with the goal of an engaging and interactive visitor experience.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties

  • Assist in the fabrication process of custom designed and build exhibits.
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of all exhibits at DHDC, Wildcat Bluff, and traveling exhibits.
  • Assist with the installation and strike of traveling exhibits.
  • Oversee daily walk through of exhibits currently on display, and coordinate with any necessary repairs.
  • Diagnose and problem solve basic mechanical or aesthetic issues with interactive museum exhibits, static exhibits, and art installations.
  • Maintain day to day upkeep, repairs, and maintenance of exhibits used on a daily basis.
  • Work with DHDC Directors/staff to assist in setup and tear down of exhibits for events.
  • Work with multiple departments to address exhibit and programmatic needs, and assist in problem solving solutions.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Exhibits and Facilities and other members of the exhibits team.


Qualifications

  • Ability to walk, stand, kneel, and climb a ladder as necessary.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to use and understand hand and power tools correctly and safely.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment in the exhibit shop and storage spaces. 
  • Ability to read and follow drawings or directions to install/strike exhibits.
  • Common woodworking knowledge.
  • Common electrical knowledge.
  • A courteous demeanor toward museum staff and guests.
  • Willing to learn new skills and proficiencies.
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Ability to take initiative and action without being told to do so.
  • Ability to work within a fast paced, collaborative team environment.
  • Valid Texas drivers license.



Preferable Skills

  • Museum experience and a familiarity with common museum practices.
  • Electrical skills.
  • Welding skills.
  • Forklift certification and experience with heavy machinery.
