As a part of Fetter Health Care Network’s patient centered medical home care team the Certified Medical Assistant provide clinical support while assisting the clinician in meeting patient care needs


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Included but not limited to the following);

  • Welcomes patients by greeting them, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries.
  • Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room;
  • providing examination gowns and drapes; helping them to position themselves for the examination and/or
  • treatment; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs;
  • confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
  • Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory
  • specimens; performing basic laboratory test on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; sterilizing
  • medical instruments; administering medications on the premises; authorizing drug refills as directed; telephoning
  • prescriptions to pharmacies; drawing blood; taking electrocardiograms; removing sutures; changing dressings.
  • Educates patients by providing medication and diet information and instructions; answering questions.
  • Completes records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results.
  • Generates revenues by recording billing information of services rendered; completing insurance forms;
  • responding to insurance and other third-party inquiries.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventory stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining
  • supplies; performing preventative maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards, policies and
  • procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Annotate temperatures for refrigerator, freezer, incubator, and room on a daily basis.
  • Autoclave instruments in accordance with daily and monthly cleanings schedules.
  • Exam room prepared for receiving patient, including an adequately stocked room.
  • Anticipation of preliminary tests. If appropriate, have patient in gown for pelvic, physical, etc.
  • Assisting provider with prescribed medication/samples from clinic medication outlet.
  • Review and planning of provider scheduling with LPN Care Coordinator.
  • Assist LPN Care Coordinator with referrals, tracking of weekly labs, radiology, EKG’s. Log all positive HCG’s,
  • abnormal cytology reports in appropriate logs.
  • Assist provider with minor surgeries and procedures.
  • Give Immunizations and injections per provider directive.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor which are consistent with the position and in compliance with
  • agency policies and procedures.
Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must be computer literate and be able to operate Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Must possess good knowledge of office practices
  • Customer service oriented, organized, and diligent.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Must have excellent grammar usage
  • Demonstrates problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and consistently with limited direct supervision.
  • Ability to communicate well with staff, physicians and general public.
  • Exhibits commitment to effective problem solving techniques when issues arise.
  • Good organizational and strong communication skills with the ability to interact with a variety of persons.
  • Understanding, courteous, and professional at all times in contacts with patients, visitors, employees, and medical staff.
  • Dependable/ must have flexible work schedule.
  • Neat and friendly appearance.
  • Ability to speak Spanish. (preferred)


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Current CMA or RMA required
  • Must be CPR Certified
  • 1-3 years of experience in a medical office or health care setting environment preferred
