Program Summary

Rising Strong serves families who are at risk for separation due to parental substance misuse by providing safe housing, substance misuse treatment, case management, and other supportive wraparound services. By serving whole families, our aim is to reduce trauma in children, decrease the rates of foster care placements, and remove barriers that traditionally prevent parents from succeeding in substance abuse treatment. We walk alongside and support vulnerable families as they seek to change their stories.


Job Summary

This position models appropriate health and safety standards for all individuals and families—and helps to support additional health & sanitation tasks during overnight hours. This position coaches, practices, encourages, and empowers families in reunification and recovery both short and long term, with a focus on providing support during overnight hours for families residing at Rising Strong.

 

 Job Duties/Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each of the essential duties/responsibilities listed below.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties/responsibilities of this job.

 

Spend 40% of time supporting healthy shelter operations during overnight hours, which includes:

  1. Complete assigned list of health & sanitation tasks each night/throughout the building.
  2. Report to RS Leadership when supplies run low/or when additional supplies are needed.

Spend 60% of time supporting the additional Family Skill’s coach duties, listed below:

  1. Assist residents, as needed, with urgent care issues.
    • Support families in after-hours training for any urgent health care needs that arise.
  2. Monitor the building for safety and potential risks to sobriety.
    • Conduct visual bed checks—in partnership with another FSC—two times a night to ensure that families are not co-sleeping & to ensure that all dependents are in their assigned rooms each night.
    • Conduct walk-throughs of common spaces throughout the building to ensure safety is maintained throughout the nighttime hours.
  3. Maintain family records, Shift Notes and complete all other necessary documentation.
    • Document bed checks and other notable events in Shift Notes each night.
    • Document the head count/number of families that are currently residing in the building in Shift Notes each night.
  4. Conduct urinalysis testing, as requested by staff leadership.
  5. Assist residents, as needed, with solving problems and conflict resolution. The goal is creating and identifying processes and routines that can be carried out successfully to life outside the program.
  6. Coach families on policies and procedures to ensure that Rising Strong rules are being followed and that families are practicing safe habits.
  7. Carry out shift responsibilities to ensure the ongoing safety, cleanliness, and smooth operation of the facility.
    • Train and implement Emergency Evacuation protocols according to Rising Strong Evacuation Procedures for both scheduled & un-scheduled events.
  8. Intervene in emotionally charged situations to deescalate conflict.
  9. Pay attention and intervene when families are isolating from the community.
  10. Maintain a high alert for safety threats for all family members and intervene immediately to remove or reduce the threat.
  11. Ensure no families leave the facility without authorization from appropriate staff members.
  12. Report any suspicion of drug or alcohol use to the appropriate staff members immediately.
  13. Assist in calmly and compassionately responding to relapses with staff leadership, with safety for all parties as the priority.
  14. Maintain hygienic and organized supply areas.
  15. Assist with leading activities for parents and children.
  16. Assist with transporting families as assigned.
  17. Answer the phone and take messages.
  18. Provide leadership and appropriate response in case of an emergency.
  19. When subpoenaed or otherwise called upon, appear in court to testify regarding families’ involvement in the program.
  20. Uses appropriate administrative, fiscal, physical, and technical safeguards to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and security of CCEW client protected health information (PHI), per regulations outlined in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
  21. Accurately account for time worked according to agency standards.
  22. Will regularly utilize all forms of communication (email, text, phone, etc.) and database practices necessary for this position and as directed by supervisor.
  23. As a mandated reporter, follow all procedures outlined in agency policies and procedures to report to the proper agency when there is suspicion and/or confirmation that a child or adult has been a victim of abuse or neglect.
  24. Perform as a team member to assure that productivity outcome measures are achieved.
  25. Adhere to the tenets of Catholic Social Teaching and Catholic Doctrine.
  26. Perform related functions necessary to support the mission and core values of Catholic Charities.


Job Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the minimum qualifications listed below.  These qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform this job. 

 

Education/Experience: to perform this job successfully, an individual must have an associate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Experience working with children required.  At least two years’ experience in social services preferred; working with individuals in recovery, the child welfare system, homelessness, residential environments, and/or mental health strongly preferred.

 

Certificates/Licenses:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must:

  • Successfully pass background check applicable to position.
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License
  • Requires respirator medical evaluation questionnaire, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by the WA Industrial Safety & Act standards. Refer to WAC 296-842 to learn more.

Workplace Environmental Conditions

While performing the essential duties/responsibilities of this job, the employee will be:

  • Noise Conditions: exposed during a shift to constant or intermittent sounds at moderate to loud levels of sound dependent upon daily activities.
  • Exposure to Trauma: Employees of Catholic Charities Eastern Washington provide direct services to vulnerable community members including those who have behavioral health challenges and those who have been exposed to trauma.
  • Client Population may include persons involved in gangs, with substance abuse concerns, homelessness and/or tendencies towards violent behavior.
  • Potential for exposure to illicit drugs and air-borne contaminants (proper PPE provided).
