Cost Accountant

Classification Exempt

Reports to Chief Financial Officer

Summary/Objective
The cost accountant is responsible for performing accounting functions consisting of product inventory liability calculations. Additionally, this role is responsible for monitoring the cost of labor by monitoring overtime hours against staffing and production schedules. The cost accountant reports on these activities monthly.

Essential Functions

1. Supports monthly close process
2. Enters monthly inventory and cost of goods sold (COGS)
3. Maintains perpetual inventory
4. Generates labor cost and shipments reports for management review.
5. Manages standard cost system.
6. Conducts product line analysis for management review

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. 

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Travel 
No travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in finance or related field.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Related work experience in cost accounting and/or finance.
