Success Coach- Mayor's Scholar Program (MSP)Description/Job SummaryOverview of Position:

The MSP Student Success Coach is part of the team that promotes a positive and successful learning experience for students. In an effort to increase student retention, success, and completion, coaches will provide an extremely high level of customer service and support to students in the Mayor's Scholars Program with the knowledge and skills necessary to assist individuals through the application of positive behaviors, helping students become more academically successful.

Responsibilities/DutiesEssential Responsibilities:

To support students of the Mayor's Scholars Program (MSP) for successful completion of the program, including mentoring and advising.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA)
  • Knowledge of current technology (word processing, databases, presentations, and spreadsheet software) including Microsoft Office applications, internet savvy, and social media applications.
  • Ability to manage a caseload of 50-70 students.
  • Ability to relate to a diverse population and to analyze problems, identify solutions and take appropriate action; resolve problems using independent judgment and decision making processes.
  • Ability to multitask, organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with attention to detail. Ability to conduct workshops, seminars, and training.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to the team environment.
  • Ability to collect and use data analyses to summarize information and develop insight into the effectiveness of various intervention strategies.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Combination of education and/or experience demonstrating comparable knowledgeable, skills and abilities.
  • One year of experience in advising, coaching or counseling young adult learners in a education setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree
  • One year experience providing college access and retention services to recent high school graduates, who are first generation college students.
  • Bilingual (English - Spanish) communication skills.
