Journeyman Boilermaker

About the Position 

W-S Mechanical Group, a subsidiary of W-S Companies, is seeking a Journeyman Boilermaker who will perform various general manual labor tasks.

Key Responsibilities 

• This is a 100% travel job
• Locates and marks reference points for columns or plates on foundation, sing master straight edge, squares, transit and measuring tape and applying knowledge of geometry.
• Align structures or plates sections to assemble boiler frame, plumb bobs, levels, wedges, dogs, or turnbuckles.
• Bolts or arc-welds structures and sections together.
• Positions drums and headers into supports or bolts or welds supports to frame.
• Aligns water tubes, connects, and expands ends to drums and headers using tube expander.
• Bolts or welds casing sections, uptakes, stacks, baffles and such fabricated parts as chutes, air heaters, fan stands, feeding tube, cat walks, ladders, coal hoppers and safety hatch to frame using wrenches.

What does it take to work for W-S Companies? 

• Two years’ experience in pipefitting, fabricating, pump alignment and boiler operation
• Must be able to work overtime and weekends, if required 
• Must be 18 years of age
• Must have acceptable ID, pass a drug screen
• High school diploma or GED
• Possession of a TWIC card is a plus but not necessary
• Possession of an NCCER certificate is a plus but not necessary
• Understand verbal and written instructions, basic math, and safety skills
• Ability to lift, push or pull objects up to 50 Ibs. on occasion
• May reach above shoulder height and below the waist frequently
• May stoop, kneel, or bend, on occasion 
• Move in and around confined, cluttered and uneven areas
• Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects frequently
• Will climb and move in and around confined, cluttered and uneven areas while maintaining balance 
• Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions
