Job Description

Summary

Perform all ECG related procedures while promoting the highest level of patient care. Performs clerical duties in a timely and efficient manner in order to insure proper documentation of procedures. All other duties as assigned.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • To perform all ECG related procedures in a timely and efficient manner in addition to clerical duties associated with the procedures.
  • Executes basic ECG procedure to the patient and answers any questions pertaining to said procedure.
  • Performs 12 lead ECG tracings and rhythm strips within one hour of order in any and all patient care areas of facility.
  • Exercises a thorough knowledge base inclusive of cardiothoracic anatomy and proper lead placement 100% of the time.
  • Coordinates outpatient testing with inpatient demands prioritizing emergency requests and "stat" calls in the patient care areas without direct supervision.
  • Applies and removes holter monitors and event monitors along with instructions to patients of the use of such devices.
  • Explains the procedure to the patient and answers any questions pertaining to the holter monitor and event monitor in a courteous manner.
  • Completes all necessary forms and requests pertaining to the procedure.
  • Preps patient skin according to policy and procedure to ensure the best possible recording.
  • Removes holter monitor at scheduled time, completes necessary paper work and use proper procedure to download the files into the computer.
  • Ability to access the computer system to retrieve and reproduce completed holter monitor exams.
  • Performs a variety of clerical duties coordinating patient testing demand with clerical responsibilities in order to insure proper document flow and storage.
  • Types relevant information onto the ECG tracing and stress tests insuring accuracy and exhibiting basic computer skills.
  • Types ECG's, stress tests and holter monitor reports, performs photocopying and filing to ensure the proper document flow and storage.
  • Answers the ECG lab's phones within five rings in a professional and courteous manner identifying self and unit at all times.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Associate's degree in cardiovascular technology preferred; six months to one year related experience and/or training (preferred); or equivalent combination of education and experience. Medical terminology and previous experience in clinic setting.

Experience using computer ECG Management and Electronic Medical Record system.

CRAT (Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician) National Certification and BLS preferred.


Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of PACS, eRad, Athena Database software; Microsoft Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word Processing software.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

BLS (preferred) and must be kept active.
