Location: Tempe, AZ (required 2 days/week onsite) Description: We are looking to contract with an experienced network engineer to help design, manage and maintain new High Security Operations Center (HSOC). The HSOC offers a secure, NERC-CIP compliant datacenter and connection point for generating fleet and other high security power system assets. Acting as a network engineer, you will be responsible for helping design, build, and deploy the new “greenfield” operations center as well as handling advanced support issues. While the focus of this role is on Network layers 1-4, the ideal candidate is interested and willing to work with and/or learn within all layers of OSI model, from cabling to application troubleshooting. This position is extremely collaborative and must possess a desire, willingness, and ability to learn new things and help other team members in many areas. To ensure success in this position, you should have extensive experience working with enterprise networks, including switching, routing, firewalls, servers, cabling, backup and restore, etc. In addition, you will be collaborating with other IT teams, and managing the “full stack” of a high performing enterprise level network. Network Engineer Responsibilities: Collaborate with team members to design and implement a secure, functional network Rack, cable, and configure networking hardware, including firewalls, Cisco switching, virtual server infrastructure, backup, and remote access solutions Create and implement network security measures in conjunction with Cyber Security team Work with vendors on hardware and software procurement Deal with escalated network support issues, including occasional off-hours support Draw up network status reports Understand and adhere to all related NERC CIP requirements Report to the HSOC Manager and OT Infrastructure Senior Manager Network Engineer Requirements: Minimum 5 years cumulative and progressive experience as a network engineer or similar in an enterprise network environment. This includes demonstrated hands-on experience racking equipment, configuring new hardware, cable management, and rack configuration. Experience building out “greenfield” enterprise network systems from the ground up, including configuring brand new equipment, is highly desired. Advanced knowledge of network systems including Cisco routing, Palo Alto firewalls, and some knowledge of VMWare server virtualization. Industry certifications in these areas will be highly valued. Familiarity with communication and routing protocols: Ethernet (copper and fiber), TCP/IP, DNS, proxy, VPN, etc. Familiarity with network analysis tools and experience troubleshooting network issues Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills High level problem-solving and communication skills Operational Technology (OT) and/or Utility experience is highly desired Additional information: Specific experience in the following areas is highly desired: Network (Preferred) Network equipment: Palo Alto Firewalls Cisco Route & Switch technologies Load Balencers Infoblox DNS ISP connections and remote access solutions Device event alerting and availability monitoring Installation and setup of new and replacement equipment Fiber and copper cabling, SFP’s, QSFP’s, etc. General infrastructure management (nice to have) Directory services (e.g., Active Directory) Antivirus Software Support (McAfee, Defender, etc.) Remote monitoring and management agents Windows patch management Server event log monitoring, alerts, and maintenance VMWare virtual server infrastructure Server equipment, builds, operating systems, and software Deep knowledge of Cisco Nexus switches (5k, 7k, 9k). Nexus specific experience is important. Can build and configure with limited supervision. Understands concepts like setting up a port channel and IOS. Has built switch configurations from scratch and deep experience troubleshooting VLAN and other network issues. Ability to use standard network troubleshooting tools without assistance: Wireshark, Traceroute, packet capture, etc. Deep knowledge of Palo Alto Next Gen Firewalls. Experience building rules from scratch, working with VLANS, setting up NAT, and troubleshooting connections using built-in PAN tools. Ability to troubleshoot network from OSI Layer 1 through Layer 4. Cisco and Palo Alto certifications are highly desirable. Specific experience with Cohesity backup in addition to above is a huge plus. Experience in VMWare and ESX hosts in addition to above is a huge plus. INTERVIEW PROCESS: initial phone screen via MS Teams with the hiring manager, and 2nd virtual interview with the team
