Salary:

JOB SUMMARY: 


Obtains specimens from patients and performs established clinical tests and procedures.  Interprets test results.  Performs instrument and equipment maintenance, and any other duties which may be required or assigned.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Education: MT- Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology / MLT- Associates Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology
  • Certification: ASCP, AMT or equivalent
  • Experience: 

 -minimum of 1 year experience in clinical laboratory performing moderate and high complexity testing (preferred) -Blood Bank experience (preferred)-must be able to do venipuncture/arterial puncture. ·         Call Requirements:-must be able to take calls during the week and holidays-can work and take calls every other weekend-must be within 30 mins from the hospital if on call


TECHNICAL TRAINING:


  • Current BLS
  • Working knowledge and competent capabilities in computer technology.

 

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Duties of the position require moderate periods of sitting and standing, lifting up 30 pounds. Must be able to hear equipment alarms and have vision to read labeling, instructions and to conduct tests.
  • Ability to understand and follow detailed written or verbal instructions or directions.

 


TASKS


  • Promotes the mission, vision, and values of Muenster Hospital District.
  • Maintains HIPAA required and all other confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
  • Follows safety guidelines and all policies and procedures of MHD.
  • Reviews and follows requests for tests procedures prescribed by physicians.
  • Draws and processes specimens promptly and compliance with established procedure.
  • Identifies and labels specimens.
  • Provides for the appropriate testing on neonate and pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients served based on demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
  • Follows the established procedures for routine lab testing.
  • Follows the established procedures when performing chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urine analysis, bacterial cultures, blood bank, and serology testing.
  • Follows quality control procedures for all tests.
  • Reviews accuracy of results before reporting.
  • Checks validity by evaluation of quality control data previous tests and duplicate testing.
  • Reports critical values to the nurse or the appropriate physician.
  • Performs routine and preventive maintenance.
  • Reports equipment problems to supervisor immediately.
  • Maintains logs and other documentation.
  • Provides service direct from patients while maintaining a positive patient relations basis.
  • Interacts with Medical Staff and other departmental managers on continuous basis.
  • Follow procedures and precautions when involved in the direct patient contact or when handling potentially infectious materials.
  • Enter and maintain personal time in time clock system.
