MISSION:

The mission of the YMCA of the Foothills is to organize, develop, finance, and conduct programs for an association of persons of all ages that will, by putting Christian principles into practice, enrich the quality of their lives spiritually, mentally, physically and socially.


POSITION SUMMARY:

Following Individualized Education Program (IEP) guidelines, under supervision from coordinator, facilitates and provides instruction to participants in adaptive and inclusive aquatic and land programs.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervises participants in recreation activities (aquatic & land)
  • Maintains attendance and progress records for class participants.
  • Supports Director in implementation of class activities.
  • Adheres to YMCA program standards regarding water safety and risk management.
  • Conveys information on programs and schedules and refers members to other programs as appropriate.
  • Record and maintain daily attendance and other documentation as required in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that program spaces are clean, organized, and safe.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, emergencies, dress guidelines and cleanliness standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • Must be CPR and First Aid certified within 90 days of hire, the YMCA will provide the training.
  • One year of relevant work experience, preferably experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • Previous experience assisting, supervising, or leading activities for individuals with disabilities.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Energetic, youth-friendly, and creative person with a prominent level of enthusiasm about providing meaningful opportunities. Self-starter who is committed and possesses effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of the principles of full inclusion and the Americans with Disabilities Acts.
  • Knowledge of behavioral modification techniques.



REQUIRED TRAINING AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications within 90 days of hire, training provided by YMCA.
  • Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire, training provided by YMCA.
  • Must have doctors' clearance and TB testing.
  • Must have clearance through fingerprinting, drug testing, criminal records, and child abuse index check.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of indoor/outdoor settings.
