Job Description
Essential Job Functions:
• Organize work; fill department staffing needs as authorized by store management, train and schedule associates so that customers are consistently provided with prompt courteous service.
• Respond appropriately to customer or associate comments, complaints, requests, accidents and questions. Be prompt, tactful, calm, courteous and professional in all interactions.
• Use Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO) to manage ordering appropriate quantities of merchandise and supplies, and insure proper accounting of product received and balance on hand.
• Perform and direct others in pricing and displaying of merchandise. Maintain proper signage, product rotation, freshness, quantity, quality and proper space allocation for merchandise.
• Engage yourself and counsel associates in effective, productive merchandising techniques, customer services, product presentation and promotional activities.
• Follow through on implementation of company programs and adherence to company policies and procedures, particularly in the areas of dress code, grooming, sanitation and maintenance of a work environment free of unlawful harassment or discrimination.
• Provide input on department budgets, goals and results. Utilize empowerment to maximize department and store sales and profits.
• Communicate and interact with associates and customers to provide a positive impression.
• Explain standards of performance to associates and work with them in achieving them. Conduct performance reviews on a timely basis and continually coach associates to improve performance in accordance with direction from store management.
• Maintain equipment and facilities properly and safely in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Maintain floor, shelf and grocery areas clean and up to sanitary standards.
• Ensure that department temperature logs are being accurately updated and maintained for coolers and freezers.
• Ensure that night crew associates are accurately recording temperatures for all store coolers and freezers and maintaining temperature logs during their scheduled shift.
• Make recommendations regarding the hiring, firing, disciplining, demoting, transferring and evaluating of all department personnel.
• Assist as needed or assigned on special projects such as periodic inventories, store resets, remodels, special merchandising promotions, etc.
• Respond to any emergency situations that may arise at the store location during or outside of regularly scheduled working hours when practicable. Receive phone calls and/or report to work when necessary to effectively resolve the emergency.
• Perform any and all duties as assigned.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
• Willing to be flexible and work mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights as the work demands. Willing and available to work weekends and holidays as needed.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated aptitude to manage people and organize workloads.
• Demonstrate the ability and desire to promote, communicate and implement company initiatives and process improvements to direct reports in a positive manner.
• Ability to make intelligent decisions quickly.
• Ability to multi-task, set priorities, present information in a professional manner and work with all levels of the organization.
• Personal initiative and follow through to completion.
• Strong communication skills and diplomacy when dealing with people.

• Qualified and able to operate power machinery and work with various job tools, (power jacks, box cutters, label guns, balers, compactors, etc.)
• Able to tactfully and calmly handle stressful situations and make a positive impression on associates and customers.
• Possess abilities and skills for effective production, merchandising, and customer services related to sale of merchandise.
Physical Demands:
• Standing & Walking – Estimated total time 7.5 hrs. Maximum continuous time up to 4 hrs.
• Sitting – Estimated total time 2.5 hrs. Maximum continuous time up to 1.5 hrs.
• Lifting & Carrying – Max weight 135 lbs., average weight 25 lbs., distance carried 2-6 feet. Must frequently lift items under 10 lbs., and lift items 11-25 lbs., and occasionally lift 26 – 100 lbs., and rarely lift over 100 lbs.
• Pushing and Pulling – Occasionally push and pull flat bed carts, dollies and pallet jacks up to 300 ft.
• Climbing – Frequently climb step ladder or step stool ranging from 1.5 feet to 10 feet tall.
• Other – This position also requires frequent bending, squatting, and kneeling, as well as constant use of either arm or both for reaching in all directions. Other requirements include twisting, neck flexion/extension, cervical rotation, high grip strength, driving a vehicle, frequent forearm movement, and frequent or sustained awkward wrist positions.
• Work Conditions – Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, sudden changes in temperature, cramped quarters, sharp edges, & hammering or impact tools. Exposure to outside 5% and inside 95%.
