Job Description

Sr. Grounds Supervisor is a working position that includes supervision of grounds maintenance, and custodial staff engaged in grounds maintenance, gardening, minor building maintenance, and custodial work.  Supervises employees performing gardening duties such as planting, cultivating, mowing, edging, weeding, spraying, & fertilizing lawns/grounds.  Assists in supervising recreation* employees and building maintenance work on the property. Supervises the operation of automotive and other power equipment such as trucks, garden tractors, mowers, sprayers, edgers, hedge trimmers, snow removal equipment, and is responsible for the maintenance of tools and equipment. Is responsible for ordering materials and supplies needed to maintain grounds and custodial needs.  Maintains records, supply inventory, and reports. In addition to the above, the Sr. Grounds Supervisor will be responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the recreational areas which include tennis/pickleball courts, community pool, pier, buoys, and beach areas. 

Sr. Grounds Supervisor reports directly to the onsite Owner/Operators of A Jack of All Trades. He/She must exercise a knowledge of horticultural techniques, and have the ability to train and supervise lower-level grounds maintenance workers in the procedures and safety techniques used in performing grounds maintenance and related custodial work.

Ability to legally drive vehicles to and from work sites, as needed. Fluency in Spanish a plus.

PHYSICAL CLASS:

Moderate:  Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighing over 50 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-50 pounds.

Grounds Supervisor "Working" Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

-Plants grass, shrubs, trees, and flowers.

-Installs and maintains water fountains, fences, gates, retaining walls, rock gardens, outdoor lighting, and other design features.

-Digs trenches and levels ground.

-Applies mulch, fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.

-Maintains green spaces by weeding, trimming, planting, and pruning 

-Rakes and removes leaves, pine needles, and other vegetation from lawns and flower beds.

-Maintains weed control around all property buildings including under and around decks

-Removes unwanted or unhealthy plants, shrubs, and trees, as well as downed limbs.

-Operates hand tools and power equipment, including mowers, leaf-blowers, snowblowers, tillers, backhoes, and tractors.

-Installs, maintains, and operates all irrigation/sprinkler systems including cleaning, adjusting, and replacing sprinkler heads/valves.

-Removes trash and other debris from outdoor areas.

-Operates snow removal equipment, shovels walkways/stairs, and applies ice melt.

-Perform minor building repairs as directed by the On-Site General Contractor

-Maintains recreation areas which include swimming pool, tennis/pickle ball courts, walking trails, beach area, dock, and buoys

-Keeps outdoor furniture clean and in good repair.

-Seasonal opening and winterization of recreation areas

-Maintains property beach and walking trails

Grounds Supervisor Qualifications/Skills:

-Ability to follow detailed instructions & to communicate clearly and effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and homeowners

-Self-motivation and the ability to work autonomously

Education, Experience & Licensing Requirements:

-Previous landscaping or groundskeeping experience

-Pool Service knowledge a plus

-A valid California Class C Driver's** (please see employer for further information)

-High school diploma or the equivalent of*** (please see employer for further information)

-Ability to communicate Spanish a plus 

-Must finish OSHA 30-hour training and OSHA Record Keeping, within the first six months of work

-At least 2 years of management experience is preferred.
