POSITION OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSE:

The Recruiting & Staffing Specialist is responsible for the timely recruitment and staffing of quality team members. Incumbent shall also support the human resource team in other functions such as compensation/payroll, benefits, employee relations, safety, and compliance. Position may be involved in various operational functions and administrative support to executive team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Recruiting & Staffing Specialist shall be responsible for the following functions:

Recruitment & Staffing

  • Conduct recruitment efforts for all exempt and nonexempt personnel, including part-time, full-time, and temporary, utilizing the following methods:
    • Coordinate with managers to determine appropriate personnel needs; maintain open requisitions for pods
    • Determine recruitment strategies for open positions
    • Use and manage various recruitment methodologies such as newspapers, audio ads, social media, universities & technical schools, high schools, employee referrals, etc.
    • Coordinate with Public Relations on media, campaigns, ads, etc.
    • Manage applicant process, including tracking applicants and referral sources, conducting prescreen process, coordinating second interviews, responding to applicant inquiries, etc.
    • Determine suitability of the applicant for employment; make recommendations regarding screening process
    • Acknowledge applicants, including on social media and recruitment platforms, tactfully responding to applicants who have been deemed unsuitable for employment
    • Promote "promotion from within" when possible, ensuring positions are posted to qualified candidates
    • Timely fill approved requisitions
    • Conduct background reference investigation (including prior employment, references, criminal background check, MVR, etc.) following an offer of employment; make recommendation to HR team regarding background reference check process
    • Coordinate new hire orientation and paperwork with HR team, striving towards timely completion; CBT, welcome lunches, onboarding tools (i.e. tshirts), etc. as needed
      • Develop and maintain high school relations, including high school visits, on the job training programs, scholarship programs, counselors, FFA advisors, agricultural departments, curriculum-appropriate teachers and Discovery Days
      • Develop and maintain university and technical school relations, including agricultural departments and student organization groups, career advisors, curriculum-appropriate professors, etc.; assist with internship program recruitment and deployment

International recruitment & advocacy

  • Oversee international recruitment, including:
    • Coordinate with HR team and production managers to determine appropriate personnel needs under visa program(s)
    • Screen applicants and determine suitability of the applicant for employment and candidate's qualification under designated visa
    • Acknowledge applicants, tactfully responding to applicants who have been deemed unsuitable for employment
    • Facilitate video interviews between candidate and potential hiring manager(s), when applicable
    • Coordinate and extend offers of employment
    • Assist candidate with the visa process to include application, corresponding payments, and scheduling of appointments
    • Provide candidates, in advance, with appropriate information and documentation related to their visa process in preparation for appointments
    • Provide community and employment orientation support for new hires, including travel, apartment and furnishings, food, utilities, post office, library, social security card, driver's license, etc.
    • Determine, when suitable, recruitment strategies for open positions
    • Engage in appropriate social media platforms (i.e. page dedicated to international professionals)
    • Efficiently coordinate legal services when needed by SFI-designated law firm(s)
    • Assist renewal schedule with incumbent and supervisor, including coordinating renewal intentions (i.e. return to Mexico versus remaining in US during renewal process) and processing timelines, coordinating with HR to update Form I9s, etc.

Employee relations

  • Act as a translator for HR team, as needed, for matters including, but not limited to, benefits, performance reviews, recognition program, workers compensation, family medical leave, etc.
  • Assist HR team in responding to employee inquiries, team member events, deployment of recognition program, etc.
  • Effectively translate documentation in Spanish, including but not limited to employee handbook, finishing handbook, policies, standard operating procedures, performance reviews, signage, company newsletter, etc.
  • Act as a translator between team members and supervisor(s), as needed, including but not limited to performance reviews, disciplinary conversations, confidential requests, etc.

Miscellaneous

  • Coordinate new hire paperwork with HR and payroll
  • Assist with and participate in human resource and company events
  • Assist with mass mailings, such as annual state and federal reminders; compose and type correspondence as needed
  • Ensure privacy policies and procedures established by SFI regarding protected health information are implemented and maintained
  • Advocate and engage in SFI's animal welfare policy, including promoting animal well-being, remedying circumstances which impede animal care, and properly reporting instances of mistreatment or abuse

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficient in English and Spanish, spoken and written
  • Accurate perception, capable of relating to individuals at all levels, presenting self in a manner which is sensitive to company, department, managers, and team members
  • High degree of confidentiality, professionalism and business ethics
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented; able to multi-task and follow-through on all responsibilities
  • Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills; able to represent Schwartz Farms in a positive manner to employees and general public
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record

The preceding qualifications are guidelines. Other combinations of education and experience could provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform this job.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in HR-related major, or one or more years' human resources
  • Staffing experience

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT

Position will involve travel and non-standard business hours (travel weekly, occasional overnights)
