Job Summary

The Junior Mine Engineer supports mine planning and design. Responsibilities include analyzing mine data, monitoring operations, feasibility assessments, geological survey, and safety compliance. The successful candidate will work in conjunction with mine engineers and geologists to define mine design and mining operations that align our mining methods with our organizational objectives.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist Senior Mine Engineers in designing and planning mining operations
  • Conduct geological surveys utilizing tools including Lidar and drones
  • Analyze data to determine the location, quantity, and quality of deposits
  • Assist in development of plans for extracting minerals from mines (drilling, blasting, hauling)
  • Assist in development of efficient mine operation strategy
  • Ensure environmental, health and safety compliance
  • Analyze mining models to determine the best mining practices
  • Collaborate with other engineers and technical specialists to address issues and improve processes
  • Prepare reports and presentations on mine operations to show progress, evolution of the mine and deposit life cycle

Job Skills and Requirements

  • Strong computer skills required. Experience with CAD, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, NetSuite preferred.
  • Proficiency with mine planning software and tools
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated poise and ease when interacting with all levels of the organization
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills; detail oriented
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Education Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mining engineering, geotechnical engineering, geologic engineering, or similar
  • 2-3 years’ experience in a mining environment preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Normal office environment 25% of work time
  • Frequent walking, standing, and sitting with exposure to all seasonal climatic conditions, and typical mining environment conditions 75% of work time. Occasionally lifting, carrying, and/or pulling objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Travel to and from local mine sites
