Assistant Medical Director

Canaan, CT

About the Position:

The Assistant Medical Director will work with the multidisciplinary team to assure coordinated and integrated medically-managed detoxification and care to all clients admitted to Mountainside. They will provide direct care to assigned clients at all Levels of Care. The Assistant Medical Director will be responsible for sharing on-call coverage for Detox and will assist in reviewing Prescreens to assess potential clients for medical appropriateness. They will help monitor current practices and Addiction Medicine services, as well as providing input and direction in establishing new addiction treatment initiatives across the continuum of Mountainside's clinical offerings.

Schedule:

Monday through Friday, 9:00 am - 5:30 pm, on call hours as needed

Your Role:

  • Performs medical evaluations for clients across the continuum of care (Detox, Residential, Outpatient), under established referral procedures
  • Completes mental status examinations, safety assessments, and assesses/documents client's appropriateness for level of care
  • Participates and provides leadership in medical rounds, clinical meetings, and practices as a member of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Collaborates with Detox Nursing Staff to determine/order detox protocol medicals and adjust taper protocols
  • Provides Medical Evaluation to "Detox-Only" clients as appropriate and as assigned
  • Coordinates and supports Medication Assisted Treatment initiatives at Mountainside and participates in expansion of other evidence-based treatments
  • Provides direct supervision to medical staff, as assigned
  • Shares On-Call responsibilities with Medical Director for Detox Unit for any required orders or other questions/problems when they arise outside of regular business hours per schedule to be established
  • Reviews Prescreens in collaboration with Medical Director to determine Medical appropriateness for potential new admissions
  • Assesses current practices and procedures for referrals, medication management and other interventions, and implements changes (when necessary) to improve and/or streamline processes
  • Works with Medical Director and senior management to develop/improve, implement and monitor evidence-based practices in addiction services
  • Implements strategies to promote mental health and wellbeing with clients
  • Participates in Infection Control, Quality Improvement, Peer Review activities and committee meetings as they relate to Detox, psychiatry and addiction issues
  • Maintains current medical license in the states Mountainside has operations, DEA certifications, Controlled Substance Registrations, CPR certification, and Malpractice insurance, and maintains copies on file with Mountainside
  • Maintains client medical health records according to regulatory and accreditation institutions, i.e.: OASAS, DPH, CARF, Joint Commission, OSHA and Mountainside policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates excellent skills in communicating with clients, families, referents and other community providers

Qualifications:

  • MD Degree trained in psychiatry/internal/family medicine, with addiction training
  • Has completed U.S. accredited residency program in psychiatry preferred
  • Board Certification in Psychiatry preferred
  • Board Certified in Addiction Medicine or Addiction Psychiatry preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in addiction treatment in a clinical setting
  • Maintains current CT license
  • Experienced in addiction and co-occurring disorders
  • Maintains a current CPR certification

Compensation:

The base rate of pay for this position is $180,000 - $230,000 per year. Actual pay is determined based on a number of job-related factors including skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities, geographic location, performance, and working conditions.
