JOB DESCRIPTION


RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

- To ensure that working practices and methods determined by the Head of Wardrobe are implemented and followed

- To help maintain the relevant costume requirements and performer needs are met in an efficient, effective, flexible and friendly manner at all times.

- To assist in training casual staff.

- To assist in the tracking of supplies and materials required for the running of the Costume Workroom.

- To carry out and assist wardrobe staff with costume refurbishment / remake projects.

- To familiarize yourself with storylines and character plots and performer pre-sets and dressing tracks.

- Ability to follow instruction from the HOD, Costume Designer / Associate Costume Designer during the technical and opening periods of this production.

- To ensure that all running wardrobe work is achieved within the time constraints set and to a high standard and paying close attention to detail.

- To help maintain the cleaning and laundering of all costumes for the production in the manner and frequency required to maintain the appearance of the costumes.

- To help maintain and keep the costume bible up to date.

- To help ensure that the running wardrobe rooms and all costumes in dressing rooms are kept in a clean and tidy manner and to follow good house-keeping procedures within the running wardrobe (including Covid19 safety procedures).

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

- The ability to both follow instruction and solve problems independently.

- Excellent communication skills.

- The candidate must be a strong team player and support other team members in sharing workroom skills and resolve problems together as well as independently.

- To be able to implement speciality cleaning of theatrical costumes, repair / maintenance of costumes, footwear, head pieces and accessories.

- To have ability to problem solve and work well under pressure in a fast-paced theatrical environment.

- Excellent working knowledge of costume repair and skill set for both hand and machine sewing.

- Friendly and approachable manner.

- Responsive to both artistic and performers needs.

- Willingness to learn new skills and pass on skills to colleagues.

- Strong organization, time management and administration skills.

DESIRABLE

- Knowledge / skill set within areas such as theatrical costume construction, props / costume cross-over pieces, leatherwork, breaking down, pattern cutting, beading, millinery and dying.

- Experience with a dance company or show.
