Virginia MetalFab is looking for a motivated and energetic individual to fill the role of a Saw Operator.


WHO YOU ARE IN THIS ROLE

As a Saw Operator you will be a part of an AWESOME shop team and will be responsible for positioning, aligning, and fitting parts of structural metal products. You will set up, operate, and tend machines to saw, cut, slit, or notch metal material.

FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

  • Set stops on machine beds, change dies, and adjust components when making multiple or successive passes.
  • Monitor equipment operation to ensure that products are not flawed.
  • Operate cutting equipment.
  • Record operational or production data.
  • Set up, operate, and tend to machines to saw, cut, slit, or notch metal material.
  • Test and adjust machine speeds or actions according to product specifications, using gauges and hand tools.
  • Inspect production equipment.
  • Mount attachments or tools onto production equipment.
  • Read work orders or other instructions to determine product specifications or material requirements.
  • Review blueprints or other instructions to determine specifications, locations of cutting lines, or dimensions and tolerances.
  • Load workpieces, material, or chemical solutions into machines.
  • Clean and lubricate machines.
  • Turn controls to set cutting speeds, feed rates, or table angles for specific operations.
  • Clean work area.
  • Examine completed workpieces for defects, such as chopped edges or marred surfaces and sort defective pieces according to types of flaws.
  • Measure completed workpieces to verify conformance to specifications, using micrometers, gauges, calipers, templates, or rulers.
  • Operate forklifts to deliver materials.
  • Replace defective blades or wheels using hand tools.
  • Set blade tensions, heights, and angles to perform prescribed cuts, using wrenches.
  • Hand-form, cut, or finish workpieces, using tools such as table saws, hand sledges, or anvils.
  • Preheat workpieces, using heating furnaces or hand torches.
  • Sharpen dulled blades, using bench grinders, abrasive wheels, or lathes.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
  • Learns and adheres to workplace safety regulations.

SHIFT

Monday - Thursday: 6:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Requirements:

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: HS or GED

Experience: Six to twelve months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to set up and operate machinery, have good math skills and ability to work from blue prints.

Computer Skills: Ability to operate computer production software.

Certifications & Licenses: Forklift preferred.

Other Requirements: Experience handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Able to wear PPE in the shop area.


Physical Demands

Lift/carry - Up to and including 51-100 lbs. frequently.

Push/pull - Up to 41-100 lbs. frequently.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

Exposure to outside elements and working in a non-climate controlled environment.
