About the Role
As a Renewable Energy & Storage System Designer (what we call a Torus Architect) you are responsible for creating and managing Torus Station designs for a customer’s purchase and installation. In order to be successful in this role, you will be proficient in all hardware, software, firmware and product requirements, configurations and any constraints to comply with local and national building codes. Part of providing exceptional Torus customer service is not limited to customer interaction, but must guarantee the product performs as sold.

The Renewable Energy & Storage System Designer will manage the customer relationship and communications throughout the design, permitting, installation and post-installation processes. The person in this position will work with multidisciplinary project teams providing electrical engineering and related technical expertise. Work will include preparing designs for DC and AC collection systems and associated storage. Projects will focus on design, analysis and will include preparing plans and specifications, writing reports, and developing cost estimations.

Responsibilities
  • Embodies the Torus Guiding Principle of delivering Speed + Quality Equally.
  • Design Torus systems for optimal performance and value, delivering post-install monitoring to uphold promised system performance.
  • Meet the customer at their home or place of business to educate them on the product offering and capture necessary information and images for engineering and permitting.
  • Act as the primary point of contact during the installation pipeline, maintaining regular communication with customers to keep them informed.
  • Prioritize timely, friendly, and efficient customer service to uphold high Net Promoter Scores and Customer Satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with engineers, installers, and permitting authorities to ensure designs align with Torus product performance, customized by site, and comply with local and national codes.
  • Validate that systems are installed according to plan and meet customer expectations, which may involve travel to customer locations.
  • Create comprehensive documentation to support Torus support teams in delivering successful outcomes.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement and enhanced customer experience.
  • Take on additional projects, duties and assignments as required and/or by request from leadership.

Experience You’ll Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of related experience working in a design capacity on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above.
  • Knowledge and experience with solar DC and AC solar collection system design.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Experience with design rendering using Aurora (preferred), Solo or similar is a bonus.
  • Familiarity with codes and standards governing renewable energy systems and storage installation, including the National Electric Code.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals
  • Proven experience in program management with a focus on renewable energy and storage projects.
  • Strong understanding of renewable energy technologies, storage solutions, and industry trends.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to translate complex technical systems and processes into simple concepts and terms for customers.
  • Ability to work at remote locations in varied weather conditions (heat, cold, inclement weather).
  • Available to travel for short-term out-of-town assignments.
  • Ability to work on a rotational on call basis (may include weekends or after-hours situations).
  • Valid driver's license, satisfactory driving record and ability to operate a company vehicle.

Working Conditions
This position is a hybrid, remote role. You will conduct your work both at installation locations throughout the United States and remotely from your home office. You may be asked to travel to installation locations and may be exposed to unpredictable weather conditions.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to support customers and team members on nights, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Capable of safely climbing a ladder to get on/in attic and roofs.
  • Prolonged periods of walking, standing, kneeling and bending could at times be required.
