Summary/Objective

The Machinist/ Shop Technician operates a variety of both manual and CNC machining equipment (lathes and mills) to produce parts that meet design specification.

Essential Functions

  1. Reviews blueprints/technical drawings, work orders and work instructions to plan and set up production processes.
  2. Set up CNC machines, including loading tools, programs, and raw material to set up sheets.
  3. Analyzes, selects, or modifies speeds and cutting tools for programs as needed.
  4. Uses precision measuring instruments including micrometers and calipers, and fixtures and gauges to check work and perform detailed inspection of parts produced, especially R&D or first-piece parts.
  5. Maintain a clean work environment and assist in the general maintenance of equipment.
  6. Complies with all safety rules and regulations.

Qualifications / Skills
  1. Good problem solving and conceptual skills.
  2. Excellent communication skills to communicate with management, engineers/programmers and quality support staff.
  3. Strong blueprint reading and interpretation skills
  4. Proficient in G-code and M-code programming desirable.
  5. Experience setting up and troubleshooting CNC machines, including lathes and mills.
  6. Mechanical and technical capacity.
  7. Proven ability to successfully multi-task in a fast paced, high throughput environment.
  8. Intermediate to advanced shop math skills.


Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
This job primarily operates in a manufacturing, machine-shop floor environment. While performing some of the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, and walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

No travel is expected for this position.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements
  1. High school diploma or GED, or equivalent years of experience.
  2. Three years' experience as a CNC Machinist.
  3. Experience programming for and operating vertical milling centers and lathes.
  4. Training in general safety awareness and practices.
  5. Quality system awareness.
