Job Description Job Title: Finishing Technician 1

Department: Finish Room

Reports to: Production Manager

Location: Adirondack Bat Manufacturing Plant Dolgeville, NY

FLSA Status: Hourly

General Overview:

Finishing Tech 1 is responsible for the safety, quality, and production of applying component parts to a wooden baseball bat to produce the finest sporting good products. Applying finish component parts according to specifications in an accurate and professional manner while working in a safe organized environment in the Finishing Room Department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Follow all safety, quality, manufacturing processes procedures.
  • Conduct in-process quality checks to ensure compliance standards are being met.
  • Read, understand, and follow all departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in production supporting the manufacturing of our sporting good products.
  • Read, understand, and follow all product specifications and processes supporting the manufacturing of our sporting good products.
  • Operate finishing machinery including bone rubber, flamer, knob engraver, cupper, striper, pad printer, drill press, clam shell sealer, and shrink wrap oven.
  • Assemble decorative finishing components to bats including dip colors, pad printing, labeling, knob engraving, laser fill, handle taping, striping as defined on the traveler and work order.
  • Apply graphics to painted bat barrels using water decal, solution decal, or sticker application methods in accordance with traveler and work orders.
  • Perform final decal inspection and removal of decal film.
  • Package bats for shipping including boxing, clam shelling, shrink wrap, vacuum sealing, warranty cards, warning stickers, etc according to specifications listed on the work order.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Education Required:

  • One to three years manufacturing work experience
  • On-the-job training
  • Ability to operate machinery.
  • Ability to manually assemble.
  • Must be willing and able to successfully transfer to other position within the Finishing Room Department as needed.
  • Proficient in operating measuring tools including rulers, calculators, scales, Zahn cups, thermometer, stopwatch, and measuring tape.
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to problem solve and trouble shoot issues.
  • Exceptional attention to detail

Working Conditions: Clean, organized, climate-controlled production work environment.

Safety Hazards: Depending upon production department, may be exposed to dust, air borne fibers, dirt, noise, vibrations, chemicals, and solvents. Safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toe boots, gloves, sleeves, smocks, and positive pressure full-face hoods are required while performing certain tasks.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as specifications and procedures. Must have good verbal communication skills.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply concepts of basic math and reading measurements (fractions and decimals)

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to recognize a situation and escalate clearly. Ability to deal with problems and contribute in problem solving.
