FBI NICS Program
Mid-Level Program Analyst
Position Description:The Mid-Level Program Analyst (MPA) will support the FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division; National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) mission in Clarksburg, WV to ensure national security and public safety by providing the timely determination of a person’s eligibility to possess firearms or explosives in accordance with federal law.
Position Responsibilities:- Responsible for the accuracy of all work completed and accountable to the standards set forth in the NICS Section SOP's.
- Creates proper transaction research comments.
- Verifies/validates documents received and current documents within the NICS and/or other CJIS Division databases.
- Performs research on explosives permit checks and analyzes information for validity.
- Provides analysis (reviewing transactions marked for processing, processing work identified within a transaction, and providing follow-up action as needed), on NICS transactions as required by the NICS.
- Performs research and analysis on delayed queue transactions in accordance with SOPs.
- Processes verification on specific Originating Agency Identifiers and corrects/updates corresponding contact and agency information as needed.
- Contacts agencies as needed. Documents any contact-related issues to include agency, method of contact, and description of issue.
- Provides updated or any new contact information received while in correspondence with any agency to the NICS Business Relations Team.
- Continuously evaluates existing procedures, processes, techniques, models, and/or systems related to the work being processed and provides recommended actions or solutions.
- Assists the NICS section with composing and maintaining adequate documentation of all work as required under the current SOPs within the NICS Section.
- Maintains proper control and safeguards all assigned hardware in accordance set by FBI standards and policies.
- Performs necessary document clean-up of existing records to update and/or purge documentation as needed.
- Manages proper control of the individually assigned Brady Identification Numbers.
- Minimum Education and Experience: bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college with at least 1 year of relevant experience OR high school diploma or GED with a minimum of at least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of applying analytic methodologies and principles to address client’s needs.
- Intermediate knowledge of computer, printer, copier, telephone and scanning skills.
- Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must live within commuting distance to the Clarksburg, WV facility or be willing to relocate at your own expense.
- Relate to others in a friendly, courteous, and business-like manner.
- Ability to process transactions within 72 hours and meet the quality standards set forth in the NICS Section SOPs.
- Ability to independently prioritize, plan and execute work objectives as deemed necessary by the NICS Section SOPs.
- U.S. Citizenship
- Minimum Secret Clearance
- Pass a 7- or 10-year minimum background investigation.
