PURPOSE OF YOUR JOB POSITION

The primary purpose of your job position is to provide direct nursing care to the residents, and to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. Such supervision must be in accordance with current Federal, State, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be required by the Director of Nursing or Charge Nurse to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.


DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY

As the Staff Nurse, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct the day-to-day functions of the nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.
  • Ensure that the written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing department are followed by all nursing personnel assigned to you.
  • Ensure that the Nursing Procedures Manual is followed in rendering nursing care.
  • Cooperate with other resident services when coordinating nursing services to ensure that the resident’s total regimen of care is maintained.
  • Ensure that all nursing personnel are following their respective job descriptions.
  • Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, charting, etc., as necessary.
  • Participate in the development, maintenance and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program for the nursing department.
  • Participate in the survey process made by authorized government agencies.
  • Make written/oral reports/recommendations concerning the activities of your shift as required.
  • Meet with your assigned nursing staff, as well as support personnel, in planning the shifts, services, programs, and activities.
  • Interpret the department’s policies and procedures to personnel, resident, visitors, and government agencies as required.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
  • Write resident charge slips.
  • Other duties that may become necessary, or as directed by your supervisor, Assistant Director of Nursing, and/or the Director of Nursing.

-Full Time, Part Time or PRN Available.

-12 hour shifts-6a-6:30p, 6p-6:30a

-$5.00 Night Shift Differential!

-$1.00 Weekend Differential!

Requirements:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN/LPN in this state.
  • Must be a graduate of an approved RN/LPN program.


SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in a legible and understandable manner.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.
  • Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.
  • Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care.
  • Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
  • Must be able to relate information concerning a resident’s condition.
  • Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel and support agencies.
  • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
  • May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and push/pull a minimum of 50 pounds of force.
