Job Summary

The Production Specialist will provide pre-production, production, and post-production work for various events (live and recorded), interviews, webcast programs, and all other aspects of traditional and digital media functions. This includes shooting interview/b-roll, writing, and editing internal and external projects including organizational videos and image spots.

Essential Job Functions

  • Plans, develops, and produces video projects by translating management's objectives into production ideas; determines format approach and content which will be effective in meeting goals within budget and time limitations and departmental guidelines.
  • Prepares outlines, storyboards, scripts, and arranges scheduling of shoots, locations, props, and sets as required to initiate the production process.
  • Still photography for projects as needed.
  • Works with team to finalize scripts for assigned video packages.
  • Work with IT Department to maintain a media resource and archive library by keeping and updating content and hard drives in an orderly manner.
  • Maintains equipment in good working order by checking equipment regularly and making minor repairs; arranges for major repairs and instructs users on the proper operation of the equipment.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, typically overseeing various video components related to departmental campaigns to ensure consistency and exceptional quality.
  • Assists the department with press releases, social media, media requests, graphic design and creation of marketing materials and presentations if needed.
  • Drive to and from production sites transporting production equipment.
  • Ensure overall consistency of brand, look, and feel.
  • Maintain regular and prompt attendance, physically present to work; may be required to work evenings and/or weekends.
  • Performs other similar or related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts in Audio Design, Audio and Music Technology or related discipline preferred; not required.
  • Minimum 3 plus years shooting/editing informative/creative content or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Professional level experience producing and shooting video content.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office and Canva.
  • Must have current valid Class "C" Texas Driver License and be insurable.
  • Applicant must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at City's expense.
  • Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within first three months of hire date.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with coworkers, residents, city commissioners and community leaders.
  • Ability to edit both short and long-form content using professional software.
  • Knowledge of industry standards regarding video production on different mediums.
  • Animation/special effect skills for use on video, and design projects via Canva.
  • Basic understanding of broadcast and digital deliverables.
  • Basic understanding of graphic design principles.
  • LIVE broadcasting and social broadcast knowledge.
  • Passionate about current and evolving technologies.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Understanding of safety responsibilities and adhere to established policies, procedures, and training.

Emergency Management Responsibilities

During emergency conditions, all City employees are automatically considered emergency service workers. City employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as hurricane, flooding, or other emergency situations and are expected to perform emergency services duties as assigned.
