The Big Picture

St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (facebook.com/stjohnslutherancullom/) is seeking to call a strong orthodox Pastor to help guide and lead our congregation in living out our Confession of Faith.

The Church

St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church congregation draws mainly from the Cullom, Kempton, and Saunemin communities, although members are scattered throughout the area as some members regularly travel 30-40 miles to attend Saturday evening and/or Sunday morning worship services. We also have members across the United States, especially our faithful snowbirds. We live-stream our services on Sundays and our text study on Thursdays. We offer Sunday school for all ages. As a member of the North American Lutheran Church, we are Christ centered, mission driven, traditionally grounded, and congregationally focused. We have remained faithful to our cherished Lutheran values and beliefs in faith, hope, love, and forgiveness through the grace of God while facing the challenges of today’s society and world.

The Community

Small town (550) farming community with K-12 schools, grocery store, medical center, bank, post office, American Legion (serving lunch weekdays) convenient store, beauty salon, and gas station. It is ideally located one hour south of Chicago and one hour north of Champaign-Urbana and the University of Illinois. Children in Cullom attend the Tri-Point School District which includes the villages of Cullom, Kempton, Cabery, and Piper City; all elementary students attend in Piper City, all high school students attend in Cullom.

The Candidate

We need a resident full-time pastor to serve our congregation who is able to minister to people of all ages and be available for outreach in our community. The Pastor must be able to work with other denominations as no other Pastor resides in Cullom. The Pastor must possess good leadership skills and speaking qualities. We need a candidate who preaches the Bible and helps us continue with our conservative Lutheran traditions. Must be compatible to rural community.

The Qualifications

1. A true and personal faith in God through the Lord Jesus Christ.

2. Belief in the infallibility and authority of the Holy Scriptures.

3. Subscription to the Ecumenical Creeds and Confessions of the Lutheran Church (NALC) as faithful witnesses to the truth of Scripture.

4. A Master of Divinity or its equivalent.

5. Committed to participating in and developing a discipleship community, and actively living as a disciple of Jesus Christ.

6. Committed to living a faithful and Godly life in accordance with the Holy Scriptures and conducting oneself in such a manner as to not bring reproach upon themselves, their family, or the Church.

7. Self-motivated and able to work independently and with accountability toward directed goals of the congregation.

Compensation

Total Package: $75,000-$100,000 depending on experience
