ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: include Selection Fabricator duties as described below. Responsibilities also include attention to safety according to all safety rules. MUST SUCCESSFULLY PASS A WELDING TEST:

  1. Sets-up and operates plasma for stitch cut and cut apart operations.
  2. Strikes (forms) arc, manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
  3. Welds in flat, vertical position.
  4. Performs repairs on cut apart pipe (grinding, epoxy, and/or cement repairs).
  5. Changes out consumables, i.e. gas bottles, and sets to proper pressures , changes wire.
  6. Sets welder Amps and Volts to welding specification and sets wire feeder to proper speed according to the welding specification; sets welder for stick welding at cut apart station.
  7. Self-examination of weld for bead size, proper surface finish, and compliance with specifications for couplings.
  8. Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
  9. Identifies weld defects on pipe; identifies areas of pipe that require repair, either pre-marked by inspectors or through visual inspection.
  10. Welds couplings onto finished pipe according to pipe specifications and performs post coupling repairs, as needed.
  11. Positions pipe at repair rack onto the rotators to facilitate the repair process for the stitch cut repair rack.
  12. Performs necessary preparatory work by grinding, gouging, cutting cement lining, or otherwise preparing pipe based on
  13. Complies with all safety rules.
  14. Selection Fabricator requires minimal, if any, supervision to accomplish the essential functions of the job at either stitch cut or cut apart stations.
  15. Retrieves work orders, completes work operations, and documents pipe in JDE, and/or from Production Expeditor.
  16. Completes repairs within or at the standard time for repairs.
  17. Performs either stitch cut or cut apart operations.
  18. Successfully passes all annual and required welding tests.
  19. Reviews work orders or takes direction from supervision to determine what jobs are required, and in what order to run them.
  20. Reads, understands, and interprets tape measure, pi tape, drawings, specification boundary, and digital readouts.
  21. Coordinates with pipe moving personnel and/or crane operators to move pipe onto test stand.
  22. Performs cut and fit operations on a pipe with the use of wedges.
  23. Performs work on light wall pipe without sinking or de-forming the pipe at cut apart or stitch cut stations
  24. Enters all JDE time and verifies data reflects what is reported on downtime sheet.
