Required Technologies:
CICS: Expert-level experience in installation, configuration, and support.
z/OS JCL: Proficiency in Job Control Language for system programming tasks.
ISPF: Experience in using the Interactive System Productivity Facility for mainframe development and administration.

Preferred/Nice to Have Technologies:
DB2 and IMS: Integration experience with CICS is preferred, but not mandatory to have Database Systems Programmer skills.
MQ: Integration with CICS, with a welcome competency in MQ Administration.
Rexx: Strong skills for in-house automation and utilities, supporting over 500 CICS regions.
COBOL Development: Beneficial for candidates to have experience as a COBOL application developer.

Daily Responsibilities:
Planning and Discussion: Collaborate with Application Support, Development, and external partners to plan future enhancements and address current defects.
Monitoring: Keep an eye on system performance, including abnormal CPU consumption and transaction volume.
Maintenance and Upgrades: Upgrade and maintain CICS and OEM vendor products. Add new resource definitions to the CSD for transactions, files, and Java components.

Not Looking For:
DBA (Database Administrator): While database integration is preferred, candidates should have strong CICS Systems Programming experience rather than pure DBA skills.
Application Developer: Experience in application development is valuable, but the primary focus is on CICS Systems Programming.
RACF Security Administrator: Understanding CICS security in a RACF environment is required, but specific RACF Security Administrator skills are not necessary.

Excellent Communication: Strong oral and written communication skills are essential for collaboration and effective team interactions.
Adaptability: The role involves supporting various customer areas and federal agencies in an ever-evolving workspace.
Team Player: Due to the small team size, accountability and collaboration are crucial.

Team Size: Currently, there are 5 individuals on the team.
Projects: The team is actively involved in migrating data centers for a Federal contract and modernizing the Corporate data center to enhance availability.
Selling Points: The team is heavily invested in the mainframe and seeks candidates to bring fresh perspectives and ideas to the intricate mainframe environment.
Culture: The team operates closely, emphasizing high accountability and collaboration in a dynamic and evolving workspace

Job Description:
  • Responsible for ensuring all systems programming decisions maintain the integrity of the overall systems infrastructure. Write or debug programs to maintain and control computer systems software, such as operating systems, networked systems, and database systems. Provide technical and disaster recovery expertise for systems software.
  • 25% Diagnose, isolate, and debug software problems and perform problem resolution. Identify issues that the vendor is responsible for and refer those issues appropriately.
  • 20% Review and design system software and hardware builds analyzing system options and the impact on the overall systems infrastructure. Develop and document the framework for integration and implementation for changes to technical standards.
  • 20% Coordinate installation, testing, and maintenance of systems software. Schedule system downtime in a way that minimizes user impact.
  • 10% Review customer requests, security patches, and audit requirements for additions or changes to systems, and evaluate feasibility to determine if/how to handle the request while maintaining an adequate/appropriate overall systems infrastructure. To determine if requested changes are possible, review system capabilities, workflow, and scheduling limitations.
  • 10% Provide technical guidance to project team areas as appropriate. May evaluate vendor-supplied software packages and make recommendations to IT management. In coordination with Project Leads and senior level staff, provide input on proposals that could potentially impact systems.
  • 10% Assist in the establishment and implementation of standards and guidelines that guide the design of technology solutions across the enterprise.
  • 5% Provide technical and disaster recovery support for systems software.
Skills:
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong analytical and logical thinking skills.
  • Thorough understanding of operating systems and foundation architecture.
  • Extensive knowledge of systems programming, graphical user interfaces, control languages, development, quality assurance, and integration methodologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of currently utilized programming productivity tools and their use.
  • Advanced knowledge/skills in analyzing system software and making recommendations for performance enhancements.
Required Software and Other Tools: Standard office equipment.
Work Environment: Fast paced, multi-platformed environment which may require action and response 24X7 to support the technical business needs of the customer.

Education:
Required Education:
Bachelor's degree Computer Science, Information Systems, or other job related field or 4 years of job related work experience or 2 years of job related experience plus an associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or other job related degree.
Required Work Experience: 8 Years IT experience including extensive systems programming experience.
