Job Summary: Individual must oversee all food related programs at the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Salvation Army. Providing oversight to the daily operation of the food pantry and food storage areas. Preparation of lunch meals for community meal site several days per week. Oversees individuals assisting in the kitchen (i.e., AARP assistants, volunteers, community service workers assigned to the kitchen, etc.). Individual must be able to work with a variety of individuals in a professional manner and treat those coming in for meals with respect.
Responsibilities:
- Follow proper receiving, storage, and preparation techniques to insure that all food items are maintained at a high quality until consumed
- Plan and prepare nutritious meals for community lunch program
- Oversee kitchen activities, meal preparation, meal service, and clean up
- Supervise and delegate tasks to kitchen assistant, volunteers, and AARP placements
- Provide guidance, training and direction for volunteers and placement workers
- Oversee Food Pantry Giveaway activities and volunteers assigned to the area
- Coordinate with the Youth Outreach Director to prepare snack and dinner plans for the Youth Center.
- Inspect Shelter food storage and supply needs on a weekly basis, making orders with the Food Bank as needed.
- Understand and implement safety procedures as required
- Work with Social Ministries Coordinator to order necessary supplies
- Develop and maintain a current inventory of food and supplies
- Coordinate maintenance and custodial needs with appropriate personnel
- Other responsibilities as needed to ensure the safe, effective operation of the food ministries programs
- Use and routinely maintain all equipment properly, and report any necessary repairs or professional maintenance to supervisor.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen, food storage areas, and dining room
- Maintain all necessary records, statistics, and documentation for monthly reports
- Ensure all Iowa Department of Health safety and sanitation policies and procedures for cleanliness are practiced.
- Prepare food in a timely manner for holiday meals
- Prepare and supervise serving of Thanksgiving meal (served on Thanksgiving) and other holiday meals
- Other duties as assigned
