Medical Lab Scientist or Medical Lab Technician:

This is a union position, not salaried, but hourly. Medical Laboratory Scientist -wage is based on experience- Wage range $35.51- $61.49.


Medical Lab Technician -wage based on experience- Wage range $31.42-$49.83.
Has professional responsibilities for planning, performing, evaluating, and reporting CLIA 88 waived, moderately complex and highly complex testing. This includes pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical function; performing quality control and quality assurance activities; monitoring supply inventory; and establishing and/or maintaining communications with health care providers, and patients, other hospital personnel and other organizations.
The position accepts responsibility for obtaining, evaluating, processing and preparing specimens for testing; interpreting provider orders; communicating with providers and patient care personnel concerning testing and orders.
The position accepts responsibility for instrument maintenance and set-up; verifying reagent performance; generating/reviewing worklists and organizing non-worklist specimens prior to testing; ensuring computer interface connectivity, and reporting inventory shortages to lab manager/chief tech.

ANALYTICAL FUNCTIONS: The position accepts responsibility for coordinating assigned testing activity with other laboratory personnel; selecting and running appropriate standards and quality control material; operating the analytical equipment according to established protocols; performing testing and producing accurate and timely results; demonstrating technical knowledge about procedures performed; applying learned skills in problem solving and trouble shooting.

POST-ANALYTICAL FUNCTIONS: The position accepts responsibility for evaluating testing results in light of results for the quality control material, clinical status of the patient, reasonableness of the results and accuracy; performing computer data entry functions, verifying and approving the results in the computer; taking the appropriate action (specified by laboratory policy) for communicating unusual or critical results to the appropriate patient care provider (nursing staff, provider office, etc.). Maintains knowledge of the age/sex dependence of laboratory testing results and interfering substances that can invalidate analytical results.

Promotes a team atmosphere within the laboratory and uses good communication skills both inside and outside the laboratory. Confers with Hospital personnel to exchange information regarding testing and priorities and responds to requests for assistance.

This position is responsible for performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned by laboratory director, manager, chief tech, medical or administrative directors.
