The Lead Technician/Technologist (MT/MLT) has split duties. Being able to serve as a Generalist Medical Technologist /Technician and Lead Tech for BMH Microbiology Section. When assigned to Microbiology Section, the incumbent implements Brattleboro Memorial Hospital s mission, vision, goals and objectives by coordinating and overseeing the Department of Laboratory Medicine s Microbiology Section as well as in its subunit BMH Serology Section. The Lead Tech assures that the Section can meet their daily assignments and also by assisting Laboratory Management in specifically meeting Microbiology s quality assurance, proficiency testing, competency, waste management, physician intervention, laboratory information system support, and other duties and functions toward the attainment of quality microbiology results as they relate to good clinical laboratory practice at BMH.

The Tech also possesses advanced knowledge and competence in microbiology protocols, testing and procedures. The incumbent will assume responsibility for constantly seeking to update the section s techniques, policies and procedures. This individual will also possess the professional knowledge and competence in Serology protocols and procedures. He /She are instrumental in forwarding Reportable Lab Findings to appropriate State and Federal Agencies. Responsible for creating an annual BMH Medical Staff Micro Antibiogram. The incumbent must also be able to work as a Generalist Technologist/Technician and fill in doing testing and reporting in other sections of Laboratory. He/She will possess knowledge of phlebotomy procedures and assume responsibility for performing venipuncture, capillary draws and related procedures under the policies and procedures established by BMH and Laboratory. Serve as a coordinator for the monthly laboratory staffing schedule. The Lead Tech will work closely with other sections of Laboratory, Laboratory staff, other BMH Departments, Reference laboratories, outside physician and physician offices, and other allied and professional staff at BMH.

  • B.S. in Medical Technology or related science (MT) - Preferred, or A.S. in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) - Required
  • Copy of highest degree earned (diploma) or transcripts - Required
  • 2-4 years experience in a clinical laboratory for MT - Preferred
  • 3-5 years experience in a clinical laboratory for MLT - Preferred
  • Possess a current license issued by VT state - Preferred
  • ASCP MLT/MT Certification - Required
  • Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, PCR experience - Required
