Job Description
Gessner Engineering is looking for a Construction Materials Engineer with a Professional Engineering license for Texas. Construction Materials Engineers at Gessner Engineering are responsible for reviewing and approving all inspection reports for materials testing for concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregate, steel, weld inspections during the construction phase of projects. Construction Materials Engineers apply technical expertise to various materials-related engineering projects and processing, recommending technical and economic guidance in the utilization of materials. As a Construction Materials Engineer, you will be responsible for determining engineering properties of proposed materials to be used, reviewing plans and specifications to provide Quality Assurance/Quality Control during the construction phase, and for maintaining quality assurance for laboratory testing procedures.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Advise on construction material selection, property data and failure avoidance
  • Develop and evaluate new materials through characterization, testing and analysis
  • Write materials and process specifications and standards
  • Perform failure and predictive analyses, and data analysis to develop advancements for products, focusing on material selection, modification and processing effects
  • Provide material engineering review and approval of contract and subcontract statements of work and specifications
  • Prepare and maintain source control and other procurement documentation and guidance for material procurement activities; assign quality requirements for procurements and subcontracts
  • Interface with suppliers and subcontractor representatives on material related activities
  • Produce detailed technical reports and provide effective technical presentations
  • Provide day-to-day troubleshooting of materials-related problems
  • Provides on-site field support during scheduled maintenance activities
  • Assists sites with the development and review of equipment strategies
  • Supervisor and review field and/or laboratory tests relating to soil, concrete, hot mix asphalt, and aggregate materials
  • Determine Cost Estimates, prepares proposals, and assist in invoicing
  • Maintain a budget- Keeping clients appraised of testing budgets
  • Intermittent travel between job sites

Qualifications

  • Education/Licensure
    • Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Texas
    • Bachelor’s degree (BS) in geotechnical, civil, or related engineering program required
    • Master's degree (MS) in geotechnical, civil, or related engineering program preferred
  • Experience
    • General knowledge of materials engineering and testing, kitting, and materials handling
    • Minimum of 5 years experience with Construction Materials/Construction Materials Testing
  • Skills
    • Strong analytical and communication (written and oral) skills
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to work in teams and mentor early to mid- career individuals
    • Knowledgeable in the areas of:
      • Concrete Testing Produces
      • Familiar with ASTM testing procedures for concrete, soils, asphalt and aggregates
      • Nondestructive testing
      • Familiarity and experience with American Concrete Institution (ACI)
      • Familiarity and experience with American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO)
