PSYCHIATRY - PHYSICIAN

 

 

SITE OF SERVICE:

  • VA Healthcare System – 11201 Benton Street, Loma Linda, CA 92357
  • Full Time

POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Accreditation: Graduate from an accredited medical school in the United States or Canada.  Accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges: Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
  • Internship/Residency: Successful completion of residency program through one of the following:
    • Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)
    • Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
    • Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States)
  • Board Certification: Board Certified in Psychiatry
  • Cardiac Certifications: Must have the following hands-on certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • License: Current license to practice medicine in any state, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia).
  • NPI: Shall have appropriate National Provider Identifier
  • Experience: 1 year of experience (preferred)
  • U.S. Citizenship: Shall be a U.S. citizen.
  • English Language Requirement:  Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English well enough to effectively communicate with all patients and other health care providers.
  • Physical Capability: Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.
  • Training: Electronic Health Record educational trainings completed annually
  • Liability Insurance: The Federal Tort Claims Act does not cover Contractor or Contractor’s physician(s). When a Contractor or Contractor’s physician(s) has been identified as a provider in a tort claim, the Contractor shall be responsible for notifying their legal counsel and/or insurance carrier.

 

DUTIES:

  • Performs psychiatric evaluations for a diverse population, including geriatric and post deployment combat Veterans, who are mentally ill and have psycho social issues such as homelessness, unemployment, and poor family support network.
  • Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management, suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention, and overall care of patients with psychiatric disorders.
  • Ensures practice of psychiatric medicine is consistent with The Joint Commission (TJC), CARF, HEALTH INSURANCE PORTABILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITYACT (HIPPA), VA policies and procedures, clinical practice guidelines, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation, and mandatory continuing education.
  • Provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services including assessment and the most appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques in providing quality care.
  • The Psychiatry Physician may serve as a mental health team leader with responsibilities for coordinating consults and triage of specialty clinic referrals.
  • Participates effectively in team meetings and treatment planning conferences and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members that enhances coordination of comprehensive patient care.
  • Orders diagnostic tests and consultations and discriminates between normal and abnormal findings and makes appropriate treatment decisions.
  • May participate in supervision and teaching in support of the psychiatric residency program, perform on call duties, and performs other directly related duties as assigned.
  • Areas which the psychiatry physician (s) is assigned and has clinical privileges to practice may include depression, anxiety, psychosis, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance abuse, and other psychiatric disorders in various clinical settings (outpatient, inpatient, ED, and through VA Video Connect).

HOURS:

Normal working hours are defined as 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Normal weekly requirements per Full Time Equivalent (FTE) shall be 40 hours.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS

Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.  Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects.  Flexible and able to work with various personalities.  Teamwork skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
